I used Deft clear, but honestly I used the same combo on a dozen or more other guitars and they are all fine. I have four of them still personally. The others I have traded or sold. That green body was the only one I have heard there were problems with. No idea why it would work on all the other guitars I did, but not that one.

I am not a fan of reranch. Their cans spit way too much for my taste. Now that I have a spray gun, I can start trying out other paint.

A lot of people have issues with deft and curing. Ive heard some horror stories about it taking months to cure to a hardness that can be polished.

Are you warming up your cans before spaying them?

I just take mine to body shops. Dry enough the next day.

Yup! I always warm my paint before I spray. Andrewdoeshair uses Deft also I believe. I got turned on to it by my woodshop teacher who used to build guitars professionally.

At any rate, this time I am sticking with Acrylic stuff for clear along with body color. All should be fine.

What did you get? I love mine. I get paint from the automotive paint shop. Love it. You can get any color you want. And you can shoot a guitar in a day. They also have one part paint so you don't have to shoot clear just base coat and buff-polish. Have not tried the latter yet.

I got a Sharpe Finex FX3000 1.5mm HVLP Spray Gun.

Sounds hi-tech HNB. Still using turtle wax for buffing? I swear by that stuff now. It works so well with a bit of elbow grease and a microfiber cloth. Thanks for telling me about it. Never would of thought of it for guitar finishing.

I've tried several different spray guns. $75 for a Porter Cable mini HVLP, all the knobs seem to adjust nothing. I always go back to my cheap Grizzly mini HVLP ($20). If you are using a spray gun, make sure you buy a water trap... otherwise you will get water droplets in your paint.

What is a water trap?

The water from the air gets concentrated in your compressor. It will basically sweat inside you line, so you use an in line water trap. When you are done using your compressor and bleed it you need to drain the water out of the bottom of the tank so it does not rust out too soon.

It goes on your hose to the gun. Also a regulator at your gun is nice (link).

This is the gun I use (here) and it works great for BAse coat. It does fine with the clear I have been using, but there is a bit of a technique issue to getting it really good without orange peel. BUt I am getting better. May try a different gun with bigger needle.

here is what my rig looks like. It has 3/8" hose, to quick connect, to regulator to water trap.

I also increased my hose from 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch from compressor to gun. I use a cheap 2 gallon compressor from a brad nailer, but since guitars are small it gives me enough air to do a body. But the plan would be to get a better compressor sometime for use with all sorts of pneumatic tools.

I'm running a 33 gallon tank but it's a tease for air tools. Planning on getting something much bigger down the road.

All wetsanded, polished, and assembled! Just need strings! I am very pleased with how it turned out. The color combo turned out great also!

The red tort is perfect. It has some black in it and that works so well with your metalic black paint and the dark neck.

But wait...my Duo-Sonic doesn't have the Mustang phase switches...what up
