Indeed, there's more to professional business accumen than just flogging shit to the dumb rubes..... Novak and Lollar seem like stand up guys from what I've seen/read. I think Telenator is a little more driven by the $$$$ than he seems to have previously stated. Either way he's just made a shit-awful public relations mistake. He'd do well to just STFU, keep doing what he does and let the proprtion of corksniffers who lap up his spiel carry on emptying their pockets in his general direction.

This guy is nuts. I read some of his posts on other forums. It seems a couple of years ago, he was all on some "lets figure these out together and get some made for the good of humanity" type stuff. Now he's acting like he can patent a ~50 year old design? I don't get it.

Here's a post of his from a couple of years ago. Different forum.
Hey guys, I'm the one smoking crack as our optomist Guitamole so kindly put it. ::)

I found this site by accident and was amused to find this thread.

After a quick look around there appears to be a great wealth of knowledge among the members here.

Just to set the record straight, I am attempting to make a few WRHB for my own use. They will not be for sale. It's just a project and if you guys have visited TDPRI, you know I really dig projects. Especially when people accuse me of smoking crack or tell me something cannot be done!

Once the project is done, I plan on sharing all of the information I have gathered and possibly a couple pickups with some people who have been very helpful from the beginning in gathering the information. It's been slow going but that's OK. I'm in no rush.

I am educated in mechanical design, have access to a complete machine shop to make all my parts, have a great guitar tech who winds awesome pickups and I have the resources to see this project through. I just think it's a cool project and enjoy sharing this kind of stuff as I have seen many talented people do in other persuits and forums.

I will most likely be using'72 re-issue MIM humbucker covers even if they're slightly different from the originals because they are readily available. I could whip up a few from scratch and have them chromed but that would get more expensive than just altering the bobbin dimensions a tiny bit to line up with the holes.

The CuNiFe magnets are one thing but I also plan on trying some other magnet materials to see what different tonal qualities they produce. If these sound exactly like Fender WRHB's then cool. If they just end up sounding like great pickups, that's cool too.

I have been playing guitar for 33 years and scratch building guitars since 1982. I actually don't drink or take drugs so I end up having time to fool around playing in bands and working on guitars. Maybe I'm just extending my adolesence! LOL!

Anyway, hi every one. I'll stop back when the project is done and let you know what I've got if anyone is interested. Bob

Black Cat Bone wrote:All, Apologies for resurecting an age old thread but I think most who commented in this thread, especially Hurb as the champion of anti-douche, might be interested in developments over on an seemingly average O**set thread. This pseudo-WRHB dude who claimed he was 'not all about TEH EVIL BUSINESS' in this thread has just douched himself a nice one and started waving legal threats publicly at Novak in an obvious attempt to corner a market for his pseudo-take on a pickup he didn't even invent. Now Jason Lollar has got involved too... Looks like high-noon in pup-maker land.

Anyway I realise this is of minimal interest to many and tantamount to gossiping about the neighbours but hey I thought it would be good to point out that the shortscale spidey senses are Good and True....mods if you think this unessecary or hasty please take whatever actions deemed correct:

Haha thanks for posting that. I DONE TOLD YALLLLL.

What a dick. I imagine Novak doesn't charge $250-$350 per pickup, I can see how that would cramp his jibblies.

Fralin's keeping quiet, how long have his P92/Twangmaster buckers been out?

Image
These are humbuckers in size and shape, and they are quiet, but the sound is pure single coil.
The "P-92" (has adjustable pole pieces) is fat but still has clear, bright wound strings.

The "Twangmaster" (has non-adjustable pole pieces) is even clearer with the sound you would expect from ALNICO V rods.

That picture looked so good until I scrolled down slightly and saw the amber switch tip.

Everyone (offset kids, Lollar, Novak) except the Telenator guy came out great in that thread.

What a twat - I smelt it from the start.

He's actually starting to produce pickups now, which is slightly more laudable than just charging $300 for superficial tweaks.

I still think he's a twat though.

Pretty amazing read. Novak goes way up in my book for being a top bloke. It's funny how Telenator sunk a load of money into wrong sized magnets which Novak foresaw and steered away from.

I take pleasure knowing that Telenator is probably going to be reading this thread again at some point when he googles his name to reaffirm his delusions of grandeur and brand reputation.

epic. just had 50 min of reading pleasure on this subject, but when I clicked that homepage it was *wtf* ... it's not helpful to throw tons of coloured animations at your potential customer, dude.

edit: the browser just crashed.

CHances are he's recieved a notification of responses to this thread everytime. I'm not dissing his products per se (although the wide-range mods where totally NOT wide range pups of course) its more his responses in that Offset thread were so ill advised and mercenary to people who are his respected peers and in the case of Novak someone who had been very charitable with his knowledge. That sort of character is not someone I want to give my money to. See also Buck Mills of Planet Violin and Roger from Jeannie Pickguards
