Jimi <3 Gibson?

This thing where a whole crowd of regulars jump at a new guy who posted some questionable - one of my least favourite things about shortscale.
We go on about thios place being a community and if someone doesn't fit in immediately then an argument/discussion with one or two members becomes noob vs the community with 10 or so people chimming in to repeat what's already been said. It wouldn't be so bad if new things were being said but the noob vs the world thing gets a little embarrassing on both sides.

Shabba.
There's a noticeable difference in the number of people who post only to add fire to the anti-noob side. If it was a regular who had posted something similar there would be more of a 'the point has been established' attitude rather than posting the same arguments against the noob.Mike wrote:I think anyone established who came out with this round of bullshit would be rightly trounced for it.

He beligerantly repeated the same thing again and again while other people took knowledge based counterpoints. Then he brought it all on himself by being xenophobic.
He even used those two Douchebags who know nothing about anything non-Strat/Tele as an example of knowledge.
Seriously. WTF.
I've read it. I don't agree with what he's saying, but I also disagree with the bandwagon approach to shooting him down. His posts don't start off that well but get a lot worse because you have a lot of recognised names going at him and he's trying to stand up for himself. It happens a lot and it's very unnecssary.Mike wrote:Read. The. Thread.

That's sort of what happens when you call a guitar trash that a bunch of us have played and loved.
It has nothing to do with established vs. unestablished and everything to do with the fact he was talking shit. Look at what he's doing on offset, he clearly just loves trying to get a rise out of people.

I think he deserved everything he got.

I'm not sure how relevant this post actually was to my argument. My point was that Gibson have turned into complete hacks, lusting after the nostalgia market while ignoring real players who just want a fucking guitar, preferably with a name on it they can trust. This sin't some sort of Fender loyalty, I'm not that arsed about modern Fenders either, but at least Fender have the good grace to release models that can stand on their own and at prices people other than lawyers can afford.bent wrote:Oh man we aren't gonna get along at all.ekwatts wrote:Fuck Gibson. And not even for this travesty of a guitar. Fuck them for representing everything that is wrong with guitar design and marketing.
Jimi played Strats like because they were cheap. In studio he recorded on Stratocasters, Telecasters, Gibson SGs and a Gibson Flying V
Like I said, in 1960s strats were cheap, (especially compared to Gibsons!). As soon as he'd get one, the nut would get switched out and that was about it. When Jimi started smashing Strats live, he was demanding $100,000 per gig so he could more than afford to smash Strats... however, he didn't smash his Gibsons.

This isn't the first time Gibson have made a strat...
in the 1980s everybody was making superstrats, even Gibson http://www.delta9studios.com/images/gear/GibsonWRC.jpg
Jimi's family gave their name over to this latest copy for the dollar dollar bills yall... but in fairness Fender has taken some Gibson ideas as well... the humbucker would be one and the please tell me the Coronado isn't a 335 copy► Show Spoiler

Fender and Gibson have created plenty of guitars that have attempted to dip into the sonic territory of their rivals. The twin humbucker Telecasters with the Les Paul control setup is an obvious, and extremely successful example. Unfortunately, those times Gibson have tried to cut into the singlecoil market have proven disastrous. They just aren't inventive enough to come up with even a half-decent single coil guitar, and when they do, they market it like they're embarrassed by it.
Every move Gibson have made since they discontinued the Les Paul in the 80s for a bout five hilarious short minutes has stunk, bar the Faded Series. Gibson rely on nostalgia, whereas Fender at least try and shake shit up a little bit every now and then.
I'm not arsed about the Jimi Hendrix Gibson Strat. It's a ridiculously shit idea, a poor-looking guitar, but that's fine. What I don't understand is why, when it's actually well documented that Jimi's favourite guitar was a Gibson Flying V that they didn't bring out a special version of that? Oh, that's right, it's been out for years. I can't be arsed searching for the price, but I'm fairly certain it's somewhere in the region of a small car.
So I can understand the anger felt by some that when it came to designing an affordable Hendrix axe, Gibson went with an extraordinarily shoddy Fender copy. Bravo Gibson. Constantly pushing the envelope.
Also: Coronado was based on Hagstrom Viking.

Yea, he was on offset saying all kinds of shit, for example trying to tell us that the jazz/jag trem was the most unstable shit trem ever and that he knew it because he owned a few and they would go out of tune by looking at them. Of course, some of us told him that it was crazy talk, I for one go fucking apeshit on mine daily and it rarely goes out. Anyhow, he started getting real immature real fast. He ended up spewing a bunch of random unnecessary racist shit in a thread and hasn't been seen in a while.Mike wrote:That's sort of what happens when you call a guitar trash that a bunch of us have played and loved.

I don't know why someone who claims Gibson Les Paul's are the best guitar ever made, and that Gibson is untouchable, would bother hanging around forums full of Fender freaks and expect them not to be a little affronted when he starts going off at the mouth dissing all the designs/models that are discussed in said forum.
Anyhow. I'm technically a NooB here myself, but I can speak for myself when I say that I stay outta shit when it doesn't involve me and I don't want to post nonsense or cause trouble. I'm here to learn, not to be a hassle.
