width of the neck across the nut, yes.
taylornutt wrote:Does that have anything to do with the neck profile?
no, not really.
taylornutt wrote:My Mullestang and Musicmaster are both B necks, but the MM is way chunkier than the Mustang neck. I think my Comp RI Stang is an A Width.
I'm pretty sure all reissues are B width.

All RI are B. A was a rarity. It's smaller than B. Basically, A makes the strings more bunched together.

Shit, sorry I never made a thread about it. Life got really complicated right around that time.
I like the feel and balance of it a lot. It looks really classy and is actually in really, really nice condition, you took good care of it.
The neck took some adjusting to as I've been playing the MM exclusively, which has an A width neck. I really love the size of the neck on the ORM, but it's wider than I would prefer. Not that it's bad, just wider than I would like.
My only real issue with it is the pickup. It's really, really weak. Well, it's better than a single coil, but it just has no balls. The MM with the JB sounds like it's punching you in the face. The ORM sounds like it's playfully slapping you.
Then a string broke the first practice I was using it on and I set it down and went back to the MM. Basically, the ORM has potential but I'm going to have to do some stuff to it to make it up to the standard that the MM has set.

That's cool, I'm glad you like it. I thought exactly the same as you about the neck - really nice but a bit wider than would usually go for.
Interesting what you say about the pickup - I came close on many occasion to routing it for a full size humbucker but never followed through. In the end I found that when boosted with my Saltbooster it sounded really good. Have always found it hard to make a rail or single sized HB stand up to a full size one. I nearly stuck an overwound single in there too to see how that sounded.

Yeah, I'm probably going to try swapping in the JB Jr from my Jag into it to see how that sounds, the JB Jr in the Jag is actually thick and heavy and nice. If it is still too weak, I'll probably route for a full. I am really baffled that Omar had this thing fitted with just a single coil slot then put a rails in there, just seems like a wtf choice. The point of a rail is to get closer to a humbucker without routing out the guitar. Why would you order one that way??

I like the sounds and looks of a rail more than a bucker, I'm guessing so does he.

Recent photos I have seen have shown him with a jb jr in there, but yeah weird choice.

Who's to say he's not after the tonal qualities of the allegedly different-sounding JB Jr, perhaps from experience with one? If I were having a custom Jag made I'd want a JB Jr in the bridge, like my favourite Jag I've had that way since '98.
Jennifer Batten is another JB Jr user who had a custom guitar designed around use of mini Duncans. She'd been sticking rails, lil 59s, duckbuckers and JB JRs in SSS superstrats for years and stuck with that config for her own custom Washburn model, the JB100.

I don't mind the JB Jr, to be honest. I have always loved the sound of the one in my Jag, though I do like the full JB better. I'm likely going to put a JBjr in the ORM.

This is really nice man. I never noticed this build until you just posted a link to it in that new members build thread. Lovely. Lefty mustangs just look so cool. Great color combo!

Thanks dude. It's still my #1 guitar that I use all the damn time, only exceptions have been lately I was using my Ibanez when I had taken this guy apart to get tracings for the new project. I learned a lot from the process and should be able to avoid most of the issues I had with the new Sonicstang build.
