Not back to back but played both ) . Both play great . Both play surprisingly different . I thought the pickups sucked on the Squier but the neck was better . Matter of opinion . I like the satin. I sanded the neck on my Mustang slightly for the effect .
I'm expecting a good guitar with a good neck and shitty electrics . Pickups and pots are so much easier and cheaper to beef up than a bad neck..... Opinion...
Weird, because my cyclone(squier) is actually number two in sound and playability in my guitar selection, and is definitely there to either provide the balls that my tele may lack at times, or just as a straight up back up to my cvc.
I've owned 3 Squiers and all had subpar pickups , crackly pots and shoddy wiring . My 51 was ok of the 3 . My Dirnt bass was atrocious and my VM Tele Custom the pickups were meh. Pots were good though. Crooked screws all over though.. Since Fender doesn't make the Cyclone and prolly won't I think I'll be getting one and just upgrading the shit out of it . Wondering if a Fender Cyclone pickguard will fit clean on that... The burst with a tort guard would be sexy .

I'm in full agreement - it's the Cyclone II that I'm hoping they reissue.

Hell yeah. It's like a stang, a strat, and a jag combined. In gibson scale no less.

Just got an email from MF indicating that my Cyclone has shipped! I agree with the above and would love to see a return of the MIM Cyclone II, and maybe if these sell well it will happen. Fender might be testing the winds with this one.

that would be awesome, but i won't hold my breath. fender's balls are shrinking with each passing year. they don't even want to wander away from established model names anymore for fear of losing sales by association. cyclones, jag-stangs, supersonics, toronados. . . the 90's were pretty good for experimentation. now we get jaguars that bear almost no resemblance to one.

that demo is completely worthless for showing us anything about the guitar itself. guitar --> pedal (maybe) --> amp --> mic. record it that way, n00bs.

It's not great for sure, but it was the only one I could find where you could actually see the guitar. Hopefully better demos will come as more of these guitars get out there.

Mine arrived. Didn't have much time, at daughters holiday concert. Will post thoughts later.
Color is really, really pretty. Totally LPB. The pic on MF does not show it right.

Excited to read and hear insight from the ss.org faithful.
I'm interested in a LPB myself.

Thoughts: I haven't gotten it tuned and shit yet, but my initial feel is that the neck feels like many current Fender necks out there. Thick. I'm not really a fan of those kinds of neck, but that's how just about every Fender I've picked up lately feels. Bigger than my MIJ Jag neck, bigger than my Supersonic neck. Feels like a current Jagmaster neck.
The frets are like most Squiers. Not sharp but not exactly properly dressed. Again, I'm comparing this to my other guitars, they are sharper than those. Could use some filing down. Feels like a Jagmaster, again.
Neck is also completely devoid of any tinting at all. Very light satin coat on it. Really could use some tinting and refinishing for my tastes.
On the other hand, I'm jealous. I plunked it down next to my Musicmaster that I just spent months applying a finish to, and it's beautiful. The LPB is perfect. And it came that way, no months of work to make it fucking gorgeous. I'd love to be right handed and just buy this shit for less than $200. My son is gonna be pretty stoked. It's a really pretty guitar, aside from the lack of tint on the neck.
I need to get it tuned up and try it through an amp to hear the pickups.
Okay, some quick photos.
EDIT: DAMMIT. I rotated the pics and saved them before uploading them, I don't know why they are showing up sideways.
Conclusion: Very good value for $160. The body is, anyway. That alone is worth the price. The neck could use some extra work for my personal taste, but for $160, the bit of extra work isn't really that bad. Yeah, you could drop $600 on a MIJ Mustang or something and have a perfect neck out of the box, but that's a lot more expensive.

$30 buck for clear and tint nitro from Reranch would be great. The decal being painted on makes it even easier.
For less than $200, that's an excellent value. LPB looks nice.
