Fucking Oasis fans.

However, the inclusion of the HH POWER BABY just about turned it around.

Not Doog's though. Those old plexi panels used to crack really easily. Doog's model is from a later series that's a bit more practical.

Nice score, Doog!

Terrifying voltages lurk behind those cracked fascias, if memory serves.

(Look at me inventing Felt lyrics).

The IC100 series were certainly the ones that seem to have been used by teh big names. The VS has two major drawbacks IMO; first, the input is designed for high gain and is quite noisy by transistor standards. Second, the high gain on the input means it tends to break up with hot pickups.

I have two VSes and one is slightly fuzzy at low volume, as if there's an oxidised connection somewhere in the signal path, maybe a corroded pot. The other was my 21st birthday present and I have done a bit of work on it, replacing noisy op-amps and even creating a replacement tone module. Values in the VS tone module may have been changed during the life of the model, creating variations in the operating point of the tone controls, and the 3-way "Voice" switch isn't to everyone's taste; it might be interesting to change that out for a pot. I used to like the FET distortion on the VS with the Strat, but recently people told me it sounded crap and I should get a real valve amp.

I do have an IC100 head too (thanks to Tim who spotted it in his local paper for £25). I need to build some footswitches.

Inspired by this thread I gave both my H/Hs a wee burl yesterday and found myself quite liking the 'Heavy' voice on my VS combo (which is sorely afflicted by the white noise floor and the every-single-pot-crackles).

For the best part of a minute I considered going after the head I saw advertised locally and trying to figure out some sort of switching system whereby I could A/B to the VS when I wanted to get heavy....then I remembered I have a wealth of overdrive pedals to choose from and decided it'd be smarter to plumb the IC 100L head into the combo - which I believe will be very straightforward indeed, given the modular approach H/H employed in their manufacturing process.

Watch out for a gubbed VS head hitting the Classifieds any day now....
