Although that sounds decent as a bass, I can't see myself ever using it like that personally (bass E to E tuning). Like it was said earlier in the thread, if you want a bass, get a bass. I can't wait to hear how it sounds as a baritone (A to A or B to B).

Agreed. Bari not bass.

I've got the wifely go-ahead to get one (when we can afford it)!
I love my Schecter VIs, but, I'm really looking forward to having a trem and bass cut switch! Can't decide if I'm gonna go white or black... my Jaguar and Hellcat VI are 3TS, so I'll avoid that :P

Nah, made-up arbitrary rule. What you're calling a "bass" is just a specialized guitar to play basslines on anyway. Something that was previously done on this

or these

It's a six-string bass. It doesn't look or tune up like modern versions but it still is one.

I suppose I meant, I've always felt the VI to be pretty terrible at being a 6-string bass, with such a thin nut width. And IMO not very useful with it tuned E to E. I don't think I'd ever really use those two extra high strings, whereas I'd use the full range on a baritone guitar.

I sort-of get where this train of thought is coming from. Owning a bass VI won't make my four-string jazz bass redundant, although I don't do the slap and funk so it may just be a matter of style. I'm not even sure I play bass guitar in the 'proper' way to begin with, so I'm probably not much help even giving a bass guitarist's POV!

Those vids just made me think of some really cool open-string chords with the occasional trip to the bottom two strings for plunky boomy breaks...a standard bass guitar may or may not feature in that sort of arrangement but it would be cool to experiment. You could get some sick drone-y detuned fuzz chords out of one of these beasties! ((hellyeah))

there is a part of me that REALLY fucking wants one, but in reality my days of down tuned doom and death are probly pretty far behind me. tho, you never know, and since i don't have a bass anymore it would nice to score one at a decent price.

I think if I were to go for a bass then it's be a shorty like a bronco or something. This would DEFINITELY be tuned and strung with Bari stings A-A or B-B. I just don't think those strings and E-E lend well to chord work . It need to either be BASS or more GUITAR. i don't want to use one as a BASS but rather a GUITAR.

but that's just me.

I've never really played bass, and i don't think i'd get enough use out of a normal 4 string bass. I'm hoping the vi will allow me to have a dabble at playing some standard style bass lines, but also some melodic lines (a la robert smith) and groovy chording.

I'll also be able to change it to a baritone at some point to try that too.

Andertons have got them up on their site now for £273. Site says stock available in 1-2 weeks but not sure how accurate that is.

i'm definitely getting one of these. i can see a use for it in both my bands, really excited.

and i think i might even go for sunburst! i've now got 3 white guitars and the black looks humpty.

£273 is ridiculous. I'm wondering about selling off my Gretsch Bari and getting the Squier instead. Always wanted a "proper" bass VI.

GAK have them in their warehouse apparently...I can't see any listed on the site yet so you might have to phone them. If Andertons are selling them at that (ridiculously good) price I expect other online retailers to try to match it.

Madness. In the best possible way. Just when I told myself "stop buying more bloody guitars."
