Meh, I think that if you had a Jaguar or Mustang trem and had to retune every tume you picked it up that'd be a nightmare, but with a stop tailpiece and tunomatic I don't think it'd be a problem.
Interesting stuff, i'm quite suprised the Metal climatizing knocks the tuning out to that degree. Wood also climatizes and changes shape with temperature as we know, but obviously not enough to be audible to out ears.
I wonder hoe graphite necks fair with temperature change, hmm, i may ask Chico...
For some reason, I reckon metal will expand more. Also, metal, being much more thermally conductive, I'd imagine that any expansion will happen quicker than it would with a wooden neck (or wood with a woulden neck, hahahaha). I suspect that as well as the change in temperature, the rate of change may be inportant. This makes sense if you consider the fact that if you take a guitar from a cold back room or fire escape and walk straight on to a hot stage, under hot stage lights, in a warm crowded bar, there's a good chance the guitar will go out of tune. The more experienced gigger knows to leave his guitar on stage following sound check so that it won't be knocked out of tune by the qick change in temperature, rather it will warm up slowly as the club packs up and the stage warms up. Obviously, the change in temperature must still occur, so the thing that is causing the change in tuning must be the rate of change.

Good point on conductivity.

Aluminium is uber heat conductive, that's why the use it for external HDD enclosures.
