ive not heard of this color before. "tanqueray tonic"
Tanqueray Tonic Green was a true Custom Color with a very limited run as a promotional guitar for Tanqueray Gin ad campaign giveaway in 1988 and were distributed strictly to liquor stores and not available for normal purchase.

I've not heard of it either. It looks a lot like Candy Apple Green though.

these are hard to make comparisons, because of the differences in the interwebs and people's screens.
without having examples of each in front of me, it'll be near impossible to differentiate the two.
your verdict james? i'd say two different names for the same color

I'd agree. Also that clapton signature series was out right around that time. Maybe they did it for the gin company, liked it and put it out as candy apple green.
Also - yoink.
I didn't have a good picture for that before. This guy gets in quite a few rare colours, a fair few of my pictures are already from his site.

Rob's right it's a known colour, but it's good you bothered to post about it. It's the main way colour list gets expanded.

It is. 1981 and has black plastic hardware, so I guess it's international series.
I don't think that's the original finish but it could be.
faded cathay ebony?
Sorry to drag this but i missed it first time around. I'm pretty sure that was the original finish because i've seen two other strats just like it.
Heres the lead singer from Bombay bicycle club playing one. It looks pretty much identical to the one i had, the difference being the pickguard.
I can't find a photo of the other one but it belonged to Billy Corgan. I'll keep having a look around for it.

hey I was looking on the fender japan website about the JM-66. and it says they come in Old Candy Apple Red (OCR). not Candy Apple Red (CAR). I'm not sure if it's the same as my '96 but anyway, I couldn't find OCR on the color chart here.

Hmm it should be on there. It's possible I added it (along with Old Lake Placid Blue) after I sent the file to Dots to upload but didn't make enough other changes to warrant re-sending it...
Lookng at it the names are there (at the bottom) but greyed out so without image. Yours is just normal CAR here some images of OLB and OCR
I need to give it a once-over and add some new things, maybe tidy up some images and generally make it more presentable. I should probably show it off on some other forums too. I probably won't have the time until after the most recent comp as the sort of free time that I'd use on it is taken up working on that. I definitely have a few images not on there, though. If anyone wants to offer a hand in doing an update (finding new images, maybe editing some existing ones that have dodgy backgrounds or suggestions towards a better GUI) I'd be grateful for the help. I like how it is and the code all works, so maybe an image overhaul could send it to the next level. I might also look into more efficient code but I'm not that good at that so I might just stick with what works even if it's slow to edit.

Coincidentally I came across that exact image when looking at
this from a google image search.
That guy's signature Tele is an absolute bastard. They did it in three colours - orange, lime green and a navy blue. All look like this orange one but with the base coat changed, the gold leaf bit stays the same. I haven't seen an image of the green or blue, at least not a good one. All I've seen is a small square of each colour from a Fender Frontline. Good images (at least roughly as good as this orange one) of the green or blue would be fantastic.

The three are called 'Cadium Orange' (as you said), 'Lime green' and Ultra Marine Blue'
According to the chart they have the numbers
068 - Lime Green
069 - Ultra Marine Blue
070 - Cadium Orange
but my image is numbered 069 so I either made a mistake naming it or there's a mistake in the chart's list. Fender being the geniuses they are have used those same numbers for other colours (for example 069 is also Charcoal Frost).

yeah, right before you first posted about these I had seen an eBay auction for the advertisement of them. it showed all 3. I went back to look for it and the auction had ended and vanished from eBay.
so what's that entirely gold leaf one?

There's a Japanese version, a custom shop version and there's probably a couple of different ones he has himself. There are also G&L versions that use the skull inlay. The last time I checked ebay for them was when I last posted in this thread about them (maybe six months ago), I should probably check it more often.

I was searching for a name for this color when I saw you guys have this project going on, so I registered into this shady looking crew!
I bought this one recently and for now I'll just post the auction site and I'll supply some better quality pics soon. I looked through this whole thread and didn't see this color. The seller says it is dark metallic green which may look dark metallic blue in some light. I'd describe it the opposite, favoring the blue most of the time. I hope this already rings a bell. Here's the link and I'll post again when I get a couple good pics into photobucket or other host.

These are a bit dark but I hope the color is maybe identifiable. If I come up with any other Fender colors I don't see in your collection, I'll post them too.
Thanks,
Pete
