I'm fucking SOLD on the Telemaster. Just need to get some cashmonies in hand.
I've got a 22 fret tele neck waiting for it... I'm hoping to get one for Christmas. HINT HINT NICOLE!

It looks to me like these guitars have a strat neck heel. I don't think the tele neck would fit.

GFS wrote:The Neck features vintage style radius with a sweet solid Rosewood fingerboard. The 2 3/16" Heel width is cut the same as the traditional "Strat" heel rout- and is compatible with replacement "Strat" necks. The Bodies are cut from Kiln Dried Alder, chosen specifically for lightweight and tight grain pattern.
The official word.

Hey yall, ive got news about the jt-40. My dad ordered it for christmas and it got here on monday, so i got to check the action/tuning to make sure it would be playable right out of the box (my parents are so awesome!).
First impression: Very light and comfortable to stand up with/hold and play
Nut was cut very good, graphite is just as good as a roller. The bridge rocks but has rolling saddles so tuning is fine. Trem is very smooth, and stays in tune great. almost as much range as my ibanez edge, but not as far down and a little bit farther up.
I will be putting some 11-56's on it after christmas just because 9-42's on a 25.5 feel like rubber bands after so much acoustic jamming.
I have never played a real jazzmaster, but this feels awesome and I will definately play it just ALL THE TIME. Can't wait to see the metalhead kids at school see me playing electric wizard on it.

OK I am visually challenged.....looking at the body only (I'd be replacing the neck) are the contours and overall shape the same as Fender?

It looks a little different to me, but because pickguards throw the eye off, I wanted to double check.
Thanks!

Contours are a bit different (they don't seem to go as deep) and the shape is just slightly off at the bottom. At least going by the various pics I've seen. Someone compared it to a JazzMaster on HC, I'll see if I can find their post.

When are they doing new pickguards?

Hmm, a lot more different than I had thought: The GFS strap pin nearly reaches the 12th fret.

what about the regular gfs offsets with the p90's and the floating trem?
are they the standard jazzmaster size?

The shape of the body means nothing in terms of tone. At least on a solid body. I think these are close enough to the originals that only some guitar nerd would really notice/care at a show. At the very least, they don't look as bad as the abomination that was Rondo's attempt.

I think bridge construction is perhaps the biggest determining factor of an electric guitar's tone. These GFS guitars seems to have the same shallow angle break and long string length behind the bridge. A pickup swap, some electronics upgrades (if needed) and they should sound pretty damn close to the Fender versions.

The fact that the lower bout is smaller is not really even a bad thing in my opinion as the curve is still in the ballpark. The slightly elongated upper horn is what was looking a little off to me.

Still interested to hear how these play and what the build is like in person. I heard the neck pockets were really inconsistent on their cheapo tele bodies.

No, I haven't played the Rondo... To be honest, I wouldn't want to because the aesthetics aren't really that pleasing to me. The GFS's, OTOH do look nice.

So what's the verdict, which are better quality for the best price the GFS or the Rondo and which are available in 24" scale ?

Go easy on the race for the classifieds. Most of these threads are two months old.

GFS tends to be a bit better, but also a bit more expensive. But rondo makes 24" scales.
