I cannot tell the difference between woods, really. Other than weight (and I can tell if something is mahogany vs alder or basswood), I think electronics and scale play much more of a role.

I despise basswood. I hate stupid, easily avoidable (if it were other wood) dents. If a guitar is basswood, it's a big game changer for me.

I don't mind basswood, but the only one I currently own that is basswood is my CIJ Comp-stang. It sounds, looks and feels awesome. But I've only ever kept it around the house and never gigged it or anything. I had another 90's CIJ stang, and it was the easiest thing to dent in the world. I once dented it with my fingernail. Someone tossed an instrument cable to me while I was holding it and that left a dent on it. If I looked at it wrong it would dent.

For a cheap squier, honestly, I don't care if it's basswood. It sounds good, will keep it lighter weight, and will keep it cheap... all positives in my mind. If I wanted an alder body, I'd throw down the extra money for the Fender blacktop, or classic player. Either way, I think it's very clear who these are for and who they aren't for. People who will turn their nose up at it because it's basswood will go for the fenders, and the others, like me, who are psyched to see a legit jazzmaster for so cheap will get the squier!

Can't wait to see more info/pictures on these, I don't need another guitar let alone an offset...but it sure would be tempting.

Yeah, but it's basswood, so apparently we should all hate this now.

I wouldn't know the difference.

I don't care if this thing is made up of gathered toaster crumbs mixed with wood glue, it's a proper Jazzmaster from Squier. How long have we been waiting for something like this?

if they used alder everyone would be complaining about it being £/$100 more expensive. deal wae it.

Basswood is alright, some people actually prefer it. EVH for the longest has insisted that all his guitars be made of basswood and people pay good money for those guitars.

Not put off by basswood.

I just hope I can justify getting one. I really don't need any more guitars though.

Have we found out for sure if they're even going to be US market as well?

You lot may mock, but it'd be a deal breaker for me. Of course, I have a proper Jazzmaster...

Looks like the dickbags on offset took issue with being called dickbags. For that, I am truly, truly sorry. It's not like they have to read a proper forum like this one.

I'm not sure I've ever managed to troll a website I don't even post on. I believe that probably makes me a whole 1% smarter than the guys on offset whose main retort is that the shortscale moniker somehow denotes small penis size. WELCOME TO THE SCHOOLYARD! I think you'll find we're much, much better bullies than you.

Knock it off, Watts. There's no place for that here.
