Thought about this for a bit - the current GAS list is:
Any viola bass (hofner, epiphone - either are fine)
Larrivee OMO3E acoustic
Rickenbacker 330/320
Fernandez "the revival" strat
Having just spent the day moving things out of the house to make room for the arrival of my second child, I doubt the wife will look kindly to another instrument in our room. Dammit.

i've got a longing for something with humbuckers. i feel like i don't have that base covered at all, so have been looking at les paul and SG types, yamaha SG1/200s, that kind of thing.
set neck would be nice (but not essential i suppose), and black, preferably. a nice greco les paul custom would be spot on, but they're getting quite pricey now. £400 is more than i'm willing to spend.

i had a greco les paul custom. it was an awesome guitar. seriously better than any epiphone and most gibsons i've played. i got it on ebay with no pickups, so i put fralins in.
unfortunately i had to sell it when the transmission on my car crapped out.

something like that would be perfect, i'd have to find a cheap one though.

Don't scrimp on a set neck guitar - hold out for a decent MIJ one; a Tokai SG will come up if you're patient.

what sort of prices do they tend to go for? £400? i've got no clue about these kind of guitars, i've had little interest in them until now.

i got that one for $300 without pickups. I sold it for a little under $600.
i actually bought it for the same reason you want to get one. i just wanted a humbucker guitar to mess around with. it ended up becoming my main guitar.

You'll be lucky to get much for under £400, but you will if you're patient. Will keep an eye out for you.
Controversy approaching, but: any cheaper than that and it's not worth it. Epi's are pony.

tbh, i don't have a pot to piss in at the moment, which is why i mentioned it in this thread.

Too late - have
found you one. You'd be a lucky teddy to get that for under £400 though. People don't get the same wide-ons they do for the LPs though. Silly people. A humbucker equipped SG is exactly as much fun as a petrol strimmer, in very similar ways, and with very similar sounds.

will keep track of what they go for in the event i can save up some pennies.

I have one of those but mine is a '60s tribute in worn ebony 'cause the other colors where out of ordering
Also added a B7 Bigbsy, Orange Drops, chrome truss rod cover and so on..
They're great players and less heavy then the normal LP's due to the tone chambers in the body
Excellent tone on those P90's

Being a pauper, I have to jones for cheap guitars;
Vintage V100; I'd like a Les Paul, but will never be able to get a Gibson and these seem pretty good.
Vintage VE660; I haven't got a useable acoustic (I have a pawnshop special with a loose neck) and it's cooler than a snowmans ball bag!

suddenly I've found myself yearning a Firebird (with minihum's, obviously).

that squier j mascis jazzmaster, or a duo sonic/mustang. otherwise i'd say perhaps a twin or some sort of loud tube amp. possibly a roland jazz chorus or sunn beta lead if one of those come up in the solid state category.

Some kind of vibrato pedal... And another distortion other than my customized Rat. I'm happy with the Rat for my overdrive, I'd just like to be able to pull my second custom Rat out of the chain to rebuild it with cleaner wiring and such, and have a backup heavy distortion.

Ended ebay auction
I nearly cried when I saw the price that went for. I'm not sure I'd have gone for it myself, but that's ridiculously cheap.
