Marshall 5210 (50 Watts) any good?

Had a quick search but not much mention of them on here. Small gig and house/garage use.

I like JCM800s best for lower gain tones, so I tend to prefer the early JCM800s and later JMPs. My favourite tone is a Jaguar through a JCM800 at fairly low gain (Chiemi from Mass of the Fermenting Dregs).

JCM800s (2004s, etc) aren't really high gain, especially with single coils--I agree they do have a cool gritty clean to low gain sound. But just FYI you can get an AWESOME high gain sound out of those amps with a treble booster-type circuit. I've had a JCM800 2004 since the 90s, and just recently picked up a treble booster clone. My reaction was "oh that's how you get that sound." Instant 70s hard rock. Not really similar in any way to what I ever got out of that amp by cranking it or even with pedals. Works equally well with aVox-style amp too (but useless with Fenders I have). If you have a JCM800 or a Vox, you might want to pick up a treble booster clone just to check it out--it's sort of a one trick thing, but I think that sound is one of the big reasons the jcm800 amps are sort of highly regarded.

Anyone have any experience of the Marshall Vintage Modern amps? There's one up on Guntree locally for £400 Ono which I'm thinking of having a look at. I've got a JVM which I love but fancied one of these when they originally came out. It might just be a try out and then flip later at cost jobbie.

No experience with them personally, but I've heard some great tones that are more JCM800 and Jmp than DSL from people using them. Go try it out.

Has anyone had issues with JCM2000 DSL's? A while back mine lost the ability to switch channels and produce reverb. It's just stuck on the OD channel right now...

you most likely have a bad relay that switches the channnels of your amp. Take it to a tech, shouldn't take that much to fix it.

Yeah, my DSL50 had the channel-change issue; was a quick and cheap tech job to replace a minor component.
