I have decided this is the best neck for the Malikcaster.

My question is, is there anybody in the US who is able to buy this neck (and have me PayPal them the $100 up front so it clears and everything (saves me buying it and having it sent to the UK and back again!)) and then for a price (again, Paypal ) pop some clear gloss finish on it? I know lightrailcoyote offered to do this a while ago, but circumstances may well have changed. If there are any volunteers to help out, it'll be greatly appreciated, and as I said I will happily pay for the service.

Plus, anyone who knows how to get decals or who can make them (I already know about the Geocha chap, but I was wondering if we have local talent). Oh yeah, in before that decal guy we had on here a while ago (I forgot his name already).

OK Robroe, I'm putting in an order for a neck, tuners, bushings, string trees, decal and for the genuine Tele Deluxe/Custom knobs. So basically, don't worry about these parts as of now. I realised it's probably easiest if I get all those parts and then assemble that over here, plus it makes it easier for the body to be sent over. I'm going for just a '70s style "Fender" decal and nothing else, like the Marauder and Maverick/Musiclander/Arrow for example, so it gives it that "prototype guitar without a confirmed name yet" look.

Do you have a neckplate and neck screws, or should I handle those too?

Edit: I just noticed from the pictures the neck screws haven't been drilled yet, so don't worry about that, it's probably easiest if I do it with the neck when it gets over just to ensure it all lines up right and everything.

I got one of these, it does say telecaster on it. but u can cut out the tele part. I got it from Decaljoe, they look real once you clearcoat them. Yours if you send me a shipping address.

I wish I had asked around first now, but I've just bought a pair of the ones in that photoshop from a guy off eBay. If they turn out to be crappy though, I'll get in touch. Thanks anyway bro.

UPDATE:

All the neck related parts have now arrived. I am just waiting on the neck itself. I also have proper knobs. This means the only things left are:

• Pots.
• Capacitor.
• Wiring.
• Strap buttons.
• Ferrules.

There's a bunch of places that offer wiring kits and even wired pick guards, too...

Neck is here. It looks and feels really nice. Now I need to apply the decal, finish it and then we have the top end of the Malikcaster completed. The only problem is the conversion bushings I bought are still too small. For the record, I got some white plastic tuners, which I thought would be a very cool touch, especially as it matches the body colour.

Nicely done.

Maybe you just need to run the same drill through the holes post glossing? That's all I had to do with my Warmoth neck.

Good thinking. The bushings don't actually stay in the holes, that's my only concern. If I lay it on thick enough, it probably would give me enough extra edging to fit them in snuggly, but I think to be fair I just have the wrong type of conversion bushings. I got a set from GuitarPartsResource, but the ones in the picture on GuitarFetish look a lot fatter. I think I have a set on my Squier Strat neck, so I might whip one out and see if it's the size I need. If so, I can order a set and hope they come through quickly...

I ordered a second set of decals too. The £3.50 decals I got originally were absolutely shocking. Jpeg compression, not even metallic. Very cheeky indeed. I upgraded to some Joe Decals or whatever it's called, and they're very high quality, very well packaged, very good value. Worth the whole $20 for sure.

if the bushings come close to fitting, you can wrap them with plumber's tape to make 'em stay in place. the force of the strings on the tuners will hold them in place after that. i did that on my jag.

Yeah I was thinking of something like that too. I figured when they're screwed in from the back, it's not big deal if there's some give around the bushings, and it's not like if they're not jammed in they're going to fall out. Now I've checked again, the gap isn't that massive, so I'll just have to ensure I spray extra finish inside the tuner holes, and because the headstock will be getting extra coats because of the decal that should do it.

See how it is after gloss, like bubbles says, PTFE tape is a good option also.

Yeah it's pretty annoying, considering the neck specifications said it would need conversion bushings for vintage style tuners, I got the bushings suitable for vintage tuners and of course vintage tuners as well, and ultimately the bushings aren't big enough. The problem wouldn't exist if websites actually used dimensions, rather than "vintage style tuners" which is ridiculously vague, as everyone makes kluson lookalike tuners.

I have some conversion bushings that are too big for me. Set of 6 reducers 10mm KW1 from AxesRUs, I think they are the chrome (B) ones here:

Internal Dia is 6mm, nominal OD is 10mm but 10.6mm over the splines.

I'm looking for ID 5-5.3mm, nominal OD around 9mm or 9.6mm over the splines.8 mm OD is too small. I don't think anyone will do that one with 5. I may have to replace the tuners, which would be sad, plus I think most tuners are too long for this thin headstock.

I fell into the same thing. rather than go nuts i got these tuners. the backs don't have the same look but from the front they are fine with the smaller "vintage style" heads
