I like the covers... but then, I generally prefer the look of covered hums to nekkid ones.

It sounds quite a bit like a tele. The WRHB are different but I wouldn't say it has a completely new sound. Those pickups sound more like single coils than they do humbuckers.

So you think it sounds kinda like a tele but isn't a tele and the pickups sound more like humbuckers than single coils?

so all guitars with single coils sound "quite a bit like a tele"? I think not. and these are not even single coils; like you said, they just "sound more like single coils than they do humbuckers." so actually.... I think you would be hard pressed to say it sounds much like a tele.

I'm not saying it sounds just like a standard telecaster but to say it sounds NOTHING like a tele is a bit extreme. What kind pots did you have in the tele deluxes you have played? 250? Have you tried playing them 500?

A tele deluxe sounds similar to a std tele but with different pickups they are obviously going to sound somewhat different.

*LOL* You're right

I think when the blacktops are out in the stores most of our shortscalers will write that they really like them

I dunno, maybe if they have a good neck and a good sound then fine but there are other options in the Jaguar category that aren't reaaallllyyyy boooooorrrriiiinnngggg looking. I don't like the look of Jag-masters either though though they are fine enough players so i may be in a minority with this opinion. Jag HH Special has way more appeal to me for that kind of thing.

I think the black top series (jaguar and jazzmaster anyway) are intended to be a 'gateway' guitar. Maybe you would buy one, then move up to the real thing at a later date? Like many have done with jagstangs and jagmasters, moving up to mustangs, jaguars, jazzmasters. I'd be tempted by the blacktop jazzmaster, but unsure about the price of a 'real' jazzy. I can't be sure if i would use all the features, like the rhythm circuit. I kinda agree the comments, the blacktop jaguar styling isn't right for me. My major issue is the stop tailpiece. To me looks wrong, but so does the jag HH.

Doubtful, I've never been a fan of metal covered pickups, and the lack of chrome on the missing tailpiece and control plates just makes it look plain as hell to me.

I think it's great they're making them, but it ain't for me. I know what butters my bread.

Posts like this one are fair opinions. I respect this.

What had me riled up earlier was that no posts provided any kind of valid criticism of them other than I DONT LIKE HOW THEY LOOK SO THEY FUCKING SUCK WTF FENDER!

Personally, I would rather they put the trem tailpiece in with the fixed bridge for aesthetic purposes but I love the fact that they dropped the rhythm circuit.

let me break it down for you, since my previous post was such a complexity.
portugalwillie wrote:It sounds quite a bit like a tele.
this is an opinion, one that i disagree with.
portugalwillie wrote:I wouldn't say [...the WRHB...] has a completely new sound.
this is another opinion, and another that i disagree with.
portugalwillie wrote:Those pickups sound more like single coils than they do humbuckers.
holy shit, look. yet another opinion that i don't agree with.

sure, you can change the pots and make them sound more like single coils. out of the box, every WRHB guitar i've played has really amazing, nice, furry balls. i may have known i was playing a tele, but it sure didn't sound like it. they have a wide-range, after all.

If I can get a cheap enough Jag/Jazzmaster trem, I'm routing my Jagmaster for it. It just doesn't look right without it.
