There. I fixed them. If they looked like this I would buy every damn one of them. Come on, you guys can't tell me that these don't look WAY better.

So add a master volume knob and cut a pickguard. Got it. I can spend an extra $50.

The neck join does look better one fret further up, but the extra knob is silly. Four is too many as it is.

I like the original pickup cover way better.

I always liked the Master volume. If you don't need it you just leave it wide open. It could be useful in certain scenarios. One of those quirks that made the guitar unique.

I wonder how many guys will buy the used Starcasters just to steal the neck off of it.

I think the Starcaster neck being further into the body makes sense. If it were me designing it I think I'd end up with something similar. If only for aesthetic reasons I hate it when the neck looks as if the neck's barely attached. Think the headstock looks a tad chunky, think the old one was thinner? Fuck the extra volume.

With the Coronado, the new one lacks a few of the details, like the checked purfling and I'd really liked to have seen it with a pickup surround like the old one. That said I like it a lot. I'd like to see it some of the original colours though. My favourites always being the lake placid and the white ones. Maybe down the line though?

Meh. I rarely ever go that far up on the fretboard. I'm good.

I'm a super anal anus and I could barely tell the difference in the comparison. In fact, seeing them together, I thought the top versions were the corrected versions at first.

I think it's a bit silly to pore over minutiae in low-res images without touching the instrument and having a live judge of it.

And hey, if things go like they have been lately, just wait for the vintage-correct Squier versions.

I decided to play some of my guitars after work, so I pulled out my Coronado II.

One thing I noticed for the first time was the Neck pup is actually shorter than the Bridge pickup. The pickups don't have height adjustments. You have to screw in the pickups and then adjust the action until it is right.

I am curious how this will work with the new pickups and if they are the same size or different heights like the originals.

You can view some detail pics on the Fender site by clicking the little clicky-box shown here on the right (underneath the giant guitar image) at their respective pages:

Good eye. I have no idea how no one noticed that before posting it.

Seriously though, how did they not notice that?
