I need a store around me to get these in so I can decide if stuff is going on the block for it.
I'm thinking the jazzblaster project I got from serfx and the super `51 may be out the door if I like it.

Well yeah. IT's more the 51 that's up in the air.

It's interesting you mention the 51. I was intending on mentioning it before but forgot to.
That guitar was nothing but a modding platform. I'd usually agree with the consensus that the idea of buying a guitar to modify it is silly but with the 51 it was pretty much made for that. These seem too pricey to make that the case here.

I was at the local music store over the weekend and the guy there attempted to tell me that these were the best guitars Fender has out right now.
I played one, the HH tele. The neck was alright, but it felt just like a standard series. Unnecessary, especially given the hype from Fender and the dude at the store (who is admittedly an asshole who kept giving me shit because I returned the wrong size trem arm for a jaguar and have a girlfriend...)

so the marketing geniuses at fender opted to price their "best" guitar drastically under the cost of all of their "lesser" guitars?
Did you promptly kick this jack ass in the nuts?

I really wanted (and still want) to. Though, given the drastic height difference between us (I'm at least a foot and a half taller than he is), I would have wound up kicking him in the face.

Just played the jazzy tonight on a box pathfinder 15, which by the way is an awesome little amp.
Result? Loved it, fucking loved it. Neck is comfortable, humbucker has a decent growl, and the single sounds terrific to my ears. Not like a p-90... But in that ballpark. Pairs well against the bucker. Did not like one thing specifically... In the middle position the hum from the single is as prominent as it is set to just the single... I assume that's an easy adjustment.
And here's the weirdest part I played the sunburst. If any of you know me at all, you know I hate ALL scumburst. Or so I thought. I really like this burst. It is dull and subdued and sorta greyishbrown, ie it's ugly as hell, and that's totally my bag.
Selling off some guitars, pedals, bits and bobs to get one. Totally sold on it .

i haven't had a chance to even see if anyone around here has these yet, but from the sounds of your review, i'll be snaking a jazzmaster in black. i've always wanted a jazzmaster.. and i had planned to pretty much do this to it (although i'll miss the rhythm circuit..) and add in a kill switch

Let us not forget it's also positioned badly too being my main gripe. Baaaaaaad. Like truss rod access. Only total ludites can deny that its far far more practical for those of us who spend a lot of time on set up.
