received today the tuning keys
for sure I'll need conversion bushings :

the neck pocket is done, it's very tight.
now I'm waiting for the neck plate to go further
when the body and the neck will be screwed, I'll make sure the body's centerline matches the neck's centerline.

how is the quality on those kluson reissues?

they look fine, mine are the double line ones.
we will see when they will be on the neck, but I'm waiting for the conversion bushings.

The reissue klusons are great tuners.

no I used a router for the pocket, and chisel to adjust it perfectly with the neck.

I'm about to order the pups, and i'm not sure wich option should I take to stay in the Wide Range idea:
1 - try those cheapos GFS but they don't have the size and/or the sound (even if from what I read they sound good)
2 - pay 200$ for the guenine Fender WRRI but I know they don't sound like '72 ones (they can be modified by Curtis Novak) and the neck pickup is out of stock

what do you think?

i'd say go for the GFS for now, and if you don't like them, then change 'em for the real thing. they are essentially the same thing. unless you plan on having curtis novak bring them up to vintage specs. it just seems like way too much money to spend on pickups, though. do you know how much novak charges?

going for the GFS seems to be the wiser decision.

Chris Novak told me "I am planning to offer a mod to convert the RI's back to the original ones. I am in the final stages, just waiting of some final testing."

I don't know for the money, but for me in France, it sure will be too expensive !!

but they only accept Paypal, and I don't have a Paypal account.
so I create one, but it will takes at least 4 business day to have the Expanded Use Number
so the bridge isn't near to be here !!

For once Icey shut up. To make exact copies of the original WR pickups it would cost in excess of $200 each. The RI do a good job of sounding close considering they are not made of the same materials.

they are 95% copy of an Original 195x Paf's
Even Lindy Fraly do copys too

the RI Wide Rangers dont use samme Magnets dont use samme round and dont use samme wire .... those shittys are expensive and lamme

The 1998 re-issued pickup, despite an almost identical appearance, is constructed differently from the original 1970s unit. Like a Gibson humbucker it features a bar magnet underneath the bobbins that abut to 6 screw type pole-pieces in each coil; the 1998 Wide Range is in fact an ordinary humbucker placed in a larger casing, and the gap is filled with wax. This is one important reason the re-issue sounds very different from the original pickup.

Fucking idiot sometimes Icey. Those PAFs and 59s are affordable copies of those pickups. However CuNiFe is not a cheap material or one that is easy to manufacture. Hence why a real WR reissue would be expensive in the $200 region if not more. Novak mod will not turn you WR reissue into a 70s WR.

Again the RI sound close to the originals. This is my experience from being at gigs where both reissues and original Tele Customs and Deluxes were being used. The both have been very popular guitars in the Glasgow indie scene. The pickups sound similar, I know this from standing 15 feet away from the amp.

A good pickup is a good pickup.

every original Telecaster Custom or Deluxe I have played has sucked, they're heavy, the pickups are not all that. I really have never seen so much to do about nothing. I think part of the whole Wide Range craze is simply that people can't get the original specs, so they feel like they're missing something grand, they ain't. Fender didn't make great guitars in the mid to late 70's neither did Gibson. Nostalgia for guitars of that period is baffling.

in fact for now i've found cheap MIJ jazzmaster pups
receive them today by mail :



so it will be a Jazzmaster with a Musicmaster bridge, and without the rythm circuit



it will give me more time to find good pups to hide under the jazzmaster covers.
the body will be routed for eventually putting WideRanges
