yeah, I'm all about biting treble. It's a key component of my sound. That's why I hated the Jag-Stang so fucking much.

the biting treble with a bit of crunch is the staple indie-rock sound. I guess teles do it so well because they give a really nice percussive jangly sound when you hit the strings hard. But i guess they can distort well too, Bloc Party have great rhythm and lead sounds.
I dunno, maybe i should just get a tele and see what all the fuss is about. Fender Mexicans are quite cheap on ebay, £200-£250. But i do have GAS for that P90 equipped one.
oh and hey, i'm NOT a shredder!!

That Squier one is junk. I've played one and the pickups are wussy and dark. Horrible guitar.
Also if you not into the extreme biting treble, there is this thing called a Tone Knob.

Hmmm, have to disagree there. sounded great when i played it. Really brash and punky and full, and bright without being ear-splitting. Tried out a Fender standard tele immidately after, and was amazed at the difference in output!

I usually cut the treble a bit on the Tele.

Telecasters are totally cool. Well there are different players, thats why there are humbackers for larger out put, and singlecoils, for nice and trebly, not muddy... I am totally getting a telecaster, unless Gretsch with the 2000 Dearmonds sets me off more.. Im going to teh Germany to see weird porn and buy some guitars.

in my unqualified opinion, what you guys are talking about may have more to do with the guitarist than the guitar in some cases. i was just talking about my own personal preference, which is that, functionality aside, i don't like the looks and feel of a telecaster. it feels like a bulky slab to me and i've always disliked maple fretboards (which seem kind of important to the aesthetics of teles). also i think it's boring to look at. i love stylized, curvy shapes like jaguars.
but of course, teles sound absolutely great in the right hands... just not mine!

Best treblyish Telecaster used for brightness in any rock song - Rolling Stones, Paint it Black. Doubt me, just listen to it. (And I'm not a big Stones fan by any stretch.)

Are tele's made for rock? I only played one standard in the guitar shop, and it was really bright and low output. Lovely clean tones, so i sort of get the appeal, but its still not as versatile as say a strat. Also i dunno every single bloody UK indie band current plays with one - it's getting silly now.
i sorta agree with this, although teles are made for rock. to be honest, i am getting a little burned out on seeing them.

The local Music Shop "KRAZY AL'S MEGA MUSIC" near me, has both of those squier models. The see-thru ain't that see through like the BAJA's or American models. The necks are satin shit too.

i roll the tone back on my tele a little less than 1/3. but sometimes i have it set to full. ive been running my ac30 kinda warmer now, so i dont have to soften that tele bite so much.
the ac30 makes me realize how much i need new pickups in my sheraton...

Band I was in, we once backed the van over a carelessly-left-in-the-road blond Telecaster which was in one of those brown kindof faux tweedy pasteboard cases.
Still in fucking tune, I swear to god, although the selector switch was bent.
If a geetar's good enough for Alex Chilton, Jimmy Page, and the mighty Mogwai, it's good for me.

Teles are amazing guitars. And they are ex-tuh-rEEEmly trendy around here, I'm sure for both excellent reasons and trendoid ones. Same as the mass outbreak of Les Pauls in the 1970s. I just hope people don't overdo a good thing and wear out the Tele sound on everybody's ears for a while.
In Nashville, there =is= no other electric guitar.

Except for that one guy and his PRS.
The tone knob is a marvelous invention. When I finally started setting it to anything other than 10, I was amazed. On Fender amps, dialing back the Treble and then switching the old Bright control on can yield subtle goodness also. Dialing old-school guitar Volume controls down to 9-and-a-half for mellowness is worth trying too.
