screw polepieces=non-polepiece bar magnets =something like a p90 rather than a fender pup.

everyone's always confusing them for p-90s, i guess fender just went with it.

and hurb, the tailpiece looked and felt like a redesigned unit. could be wrong, though. admittedly, i don't have nearly as much experience with the avri units as i do with the cij and vintage ones.

Well if the trem isn't as good as the CIJ, then its surely not as good as a AVRI, which is dumb since you can find a AVRI for $300-400 more

weird, did the trem lock thing work? I can't imagine a way of making a newly designed trem in the same old package as it were.

i actually didn't try the trem lock.
and i wouldn't say it's worse than the cij, just different. i don't know why people seem to have a problem with the cij, maybe they just never tried adjusting the screw.

do you think the avri trem unit would fit in without routing?

probably.

I have two questions bubbles...

1. Would a buzzstop still work?

2. Was the tremolo not "fluid" like real jazzmasters?


Also i noticed for the spec sheet, it says that the pups are AV jazzmaster pickups, and the pickguard is different for other colors, implying that they will release this in the surf, greens and blues.

i suppose you could still use a buzz stop, but it'd be redundant.
the trem was more touch sensitive, very strat-like.
the pickups are definitely not avri pickups. they have adjustable pole pieces and are more like p-90s than anything.

This guitar sounds more and more awesome features wise. Now you can have a decent bridge tone too. I never use the bridge pickup on my Jazzmaster.

I really like the concept of MIM jazzies; I won't know how well they play untill my local GC gets them in. Im not really a fan of them (fender) moving the tail piece up, especially on the jaguar. Though, the black jazzy does look like a rawk-n-rowl machine. Im hoping they drop to around 500~ which would be about the price of a new 60's series strat in my area. That said, I still will probably save my money for an AVRI or vintage jazzy, or a Gretsch Silver Falcon, not that that effects anything. I <4 Jazzmasters, no matter where they're made.

we got ours in at work friday, and i must say, its a very nice guitar. i just am not a fan of the screw in trem. also moving the bridge barely did anything to add sustain. The Trem Patent number is the same exact number that is stamped into the avri jazzys. the trem lock works great! I suspect the basics of the trem unit are the same as the avri just with a few minor differences in the arm area. i really like the sound of the bridge pickup. not too big on the neck pup tho, altho it's nice and sounds great it's just the the sound i like. the finish is very nice. the back of the neck feels great. i don't like the 9.5 radius cuz it's just not my thing, but it plays nice.

Agreed. I really hope my local shop gets some, then I will give it the full on rawk test. I never popped a strign out of my SG, I imagine the bridge will hold up nicely...

I know very little about Jags or Jazzys, but:

Surely the same trem unit in a different place ad with a shorter arm is going to feel very different because of the lack of leverage you get compared to the big long arm? I'd be very surtprised to learn that it is not the same trem unit.

the very fact that the arm screws in place suggests that at least something is different.
