Living in the middle of nowhere, all of my guitars have been ordered online, including ebay. I can't add too much that hasn't already been said, but make sure you follow your gut. If a deal seems fishy, it probably is. Check feedback & make sure the seller has shipped big items before. There's a difference in that & shipping clothes. Use Pay-Pal, as a buyer they offer you some protection even if filing a claim can be a pain.

Just bought a guitar on ebye this week, and it was the first time. But it was a lot cheaper than an online shop order, not to mention local shops. I mailed the guy for some close-up pics of the fretboard, and he sent them within a day. That was a good sign to me. Cannot judge by now, as the guitar was not in the mail yesterday. Hope it is today.

Shipping from the US to my side of the world would take 2 weeks. Fine, but what bugs me is the no-tracking situation here.
Which is why I ebay only for pieces of wood & metal, while Ishibashi japan serves the pedals & full guitar area.

fujigen is a musical instrument factory in japan, yea. the craftsmen working there were responsible for all the 70s and 80s ibanez, greco and fender japan. The guitars made there are fairly highly considered as far as their quality goes. somebody will have to help me out here but it was sometime around the early 90s that kanda shokai moved fender japan production to the tokai factory. the tokai factory is still good though.

damn right- if you send them a list of specific questions and they're evasive or just plain ignore them be wary.
i've bought almost all my guitars from ebay without any problems, and to be honest, the ones that i have that needed a bit of work were things i bought over the phone from dealers. like WUNJO GUITARS IN DENMARK STREET who sold me a fucking disgrace of a guitar back when i didn't know any better.
