I worked this out a couple years back and while I was adding stuff up it hit 10,000. I thought "y'know what, fuck this."
Since then I've bought a drum kit, tons of amp shit and enough stands to mic Auntie Tilly eating, digesting and passing a croissant with realistic stereo imaging. No idea what it's up to now.
If someone broke into my house, they'd only be able to make off with a grand tops before they woke me up bashing cabinets/cymbals around and I ran out waving my dick around like a mace screaming random norse mythology, and if they got the jag or the marshalls or something I'd just sell off some keyboards and drums to buy another?
But I almost WANT someone to nab the Les Paul, I've wiped my nuts on every square inch of that thing. Being out $2k is a small price to pay for the smiting of one's enemies.

I got a Music Store credit card, I got it 6 mos ago, already owe 2k (I have a $685 credit tho'...hey maybe that Princeton Reverb.)
And most of the stuff I have isnt even from there!
Fuck this is a pricey hobby. I save money on pedals tho' I run a Toneport through tube amps and that does it for me. I will not buy a Solid State amp, I hate how they sound. I like hand wired amps for some reason, that's where most of my music funds go to. I don't understand people that spend thousands on guitars and play through shitty amps. An amp is just as important as the guitar itself.

I don't get excited by lots of amps. I like the sound of a Twin, and I'm totally happy with a Silverface. What more could I want? The Hot Rod Deluxe has served me well for smaller gigs, and I like how it sounds too. A lot of people don't like them, but I've had no probs with mine.
I only wish I could be as objective about buying guitars as I am about amps.
I have one Jazzmaster that I play about 75% of the time on stage, and the rest just get played at home. I'm a child of the 80's, so I guess excess is in my blood.

Something that can Crunch up perhaps? Just a slightly more varied sound than "BLARRRRRRG" loud Clean sounds.RumorsOFsurF wrote:I don't get excited by lots of amps. I like the sound of a Twin, and I'm totally happy with a Silverface. What more could I want?
I'm just saying that $11K on guitars (all very similar also I might add) and only 1 decent amp just seems bizarre to me.
tribi9 - that's because they used a Linear taper Master Volume control, like twats. It's supposed to make you think it's hugely loud in the shop "WOW IT'S SO LOUD AT ONE"
luckily all my guitars were bought for less than $1000 us, but with upgrades, and the fact that i have 8 or 9 adds up. everything in (amps, pedals, guitars, mods), i'd still say i'm under $10,000 but not by much, and that will be going over with a pedal shopping spree soon. i really should get practicing and get in a band so i can use some of this crap at proper volume levels
at least the guitars cover a wide range of pickup configurations and body types/brands, so there is some flexibility

It is bizarre indeed. I don't understand it, myself. I've honestly been GASing for a Deluxe or Super Reverb lately, as I think either would provide a bit more breakup. I like a clean sound most of the time, but the Twin can be too squeaky clean sometimes. Still love it, though.Mike wrote:Something that can Crunch up perhaps? BTW, I always use the "Drive" channel on the Hot Rod with the Drive control set somewhat low. It breaks up slightly, then much more with the LPB-1 engaged. I've found that swapping a couple of the 12AX7's for 12AY7 and a 12AT7 in the phase inverter slot makes for a much more useable sound. A lot more like a Bassman, IMO.
Oh then that can be an easy and cheap mod. I wonder if anyone around here has done it.Mike wrote:RumorsOFsurF wrote:I don't get excited by lots of amps. I like the sound of a Twin, and I'm totally happy with a Silverface. What more could I want?

It's neither actually, the pot is a special type hard to source and tricky to install. Plus warranty - VOIDEDtribi9 wrote:Oh then that can be an easy and cheap mod. Interesting link, I remember quickly browsing through it when I had mine HRDLX. Was so disappointed by the sound and its loudness, that never really read up on it and now that you mention it makes sense. I even bought a Weber mass attenuator but found it sucked a lot of tone. (It felt to me like using a disengaged pedal without true bypass in your chain.)Mike wrote:

Sold the amp quick and bought a Traynor YCV20WR, great amp. Traynor
Is this the only Fender with a Linear pot there or has Fender Fucked up any other models?
