I own the Baja and '72 Deluxe telecaster (soon to be NickD's) and they're superb. I've also loved the 60s,70s Strats I've played.

+1 for Mexican Fenders.
Every one of the MIM standard cheapie strats I've played has been excellent. Now that the price in Canada of new fenders is starting to become reasonable, I'm thinking of breaking my strat hymen and buying one...
