I like it, although looking a bit anemic. Needs some black somewhere.

Also welcome to SS, duo in the first post, doing well.

It's not blue now, and needs a pickguard.
It always needed a pickguard. What color?

Its fucking Duosonic madness these days, you better do it before it's uncool again, like Bucking Bronco Summer and Telecaster Winter Basher.

An Paulie, way to arrive! Kick ass guitar! What else are you rokcing?

Thanks! That's about all I have for now, other than a beaten up Peavey MIA Predator that I found in a dumpster. I'm really a beginner and can't justify spending a lot on guitars now, but sometime in the future I'll definitely be getting a Jagmaster if I can afford it.

Yeah, the pickgaurd in particular seems to make it look a little cheap. I really want a red tortoiseshell, but there only seems to be one website that sells reissue duo pickgraurds and they're expensive as hell- like $80 with shipping. I might just have to settle for a solid black guard, which seems to run for about $30.

I like the white pickguard, I don't think I'd want any other color except 4 mint and even so maybe not. Duos are sweet, I wish I had one. You do need some Klusons, that'd make it look a bit sweeter. :)

How are the stock pickups on the Mexican RI's?

The MIM Duos use the same 'Tex-Mex' pickups as the early MIM Strats. They have a sort of 'trashy' sound and are very hot. With some good distortion, they have a really sweet grunge/punk sound.

Once I have some spare cash, I think I'm gonna replace the bridge pickup with one of these suckers to give me a little more diverse sound.

Woah, I'm not saying youre full of shit, but my duo has some ass-bag pickups in it that are about half as loud as any ohter pickup in my rack. I definetly plan on upgrading, if this one becomes a gigger.

What year was your duo made? Mine's a 93/94, I think the later models might have used different pickups.

Keep in mind that I've only been playing for about six months, so I am by no means an expert at this stuff at this point.

Haha I forgot you used to own it. It's an awesome guitar, it looked better with the tort though. I think it may have found a permanent home with me, I love it.

Do you know if anyone on offset owned it besides Spiffy Chap, you and me?

Two more MIMs... black with '78 MM neck and White with '77 Mustang Maple neck and Jag pickups (with 250k pots):

Image

Check out the extra long intonation screws on the black one. That's the only way I could get it close. I bought these not knowing the body and neck were unique and unlike the originals. Two more-or-less failed projects but with good ideas (IMO).

Regarding the original pickups, I've heard the Tex-Mex thing before and tend to think it's an urban legend. All of the MIMs I've seen have staggered steel rods (not magnets) with a bar magnet on the bottom. But of course I haven't seen every one ever made...

Tex-Mex pups are individual alnico magnets (much like Texas Specials but with plastic bobbin/plastic wiring IIRC).

I bought if from a gear store in Atlanta and sold it to Jay on offset...

Ceramic pickups?

What was the retail price on these when Fender was making them?

Not sure about the actual "official" retail price, but I remember them selling for $129 - $159 in the 90s.
