www.unamerican.com

i've bought a lot of stuff from that guy in the past 13 years.

its shipped out of seattle or it was the last time i ordered anything.

i'm contemplating making you kids a video. so you'll really understand the balls this baby has.

problem is i can technically be evicted for playing an acoustic after 6pm..
so.. even running this through my twin at .5 vol could get me a noise complaint.

Thanks, but man that sucks, living in an apartment eh? demo would be cool, but don't want you to lose your home space.

its a little off by 12 (as in E is still the 12th fret but we're getting sharp), but by 15 we're talking half note to full note off.

and seriously through a big muff, no one will really notice anyways

demoz being uploaded.
on a note about the video, i should have maybe turned on a light in my living room.
and you can hear the sharks ducks game in the background.

why they used a conversion from 25.5 instead of 24 on those 90's duo's, I'll never understand.

Thats a really great demo and the axe is fully awesome, but it leaves me with this question...

Why are solid states deemed soooo inferior to tubes that people apologize for playing with them? I know you were probably joking but I actually hear that alot.

My Sovtek Mig has a great sound and all, but I wouldn't say it blows my Sunn Beta away. In fact I wouldn't even say it's superior, it's just different. If anything it's tonally more versatile. Granted I am a guitar newb so I may just have untrained ears, but I say SS rocks just as completely as valve!
/end rant

sorry... lol.

its cool
i know fuck all about amps in the end
all i do know is that solid states are affordable, and usually when i blow them up its an easy fix that doesn't cost anything

tubes have more "warmth" i suppose
all of my bands bass rigs are tube, and the guitar rigs are all solid state
for my ears i like whats loud, and noisy as fuck.

in my experience, all the solid state shit i had just had way too much noise and interference (except my vox stuff). playing the same guitars years later (using some of the same cables) through anything tubed, it's not as noisy, and provides more tonal satisfaction.

it's all bout what gives your ears a wax boner.

i like my solid state amp. whenever i take it off the top of the wardrobe it's always alot better than expect it to be.

it's not tube warmth, it's quick 'n dirty cleans and it sounds nice and raw with fuzz.

also i love this guitar, minus the sticker and blue tape.

yeah the blue gaffer tape i tossed on in the jam space yesterday, other wise i'm hitting those switches all the time.

i took it off for the video, and i'll probably end up with silver stuff on it by next week.

as for the sticker, thats your scene. and i'd like you to take it clockwise. :p

SS cleans are my favorite - I would totally rock a JC-120 if I could pay someone else to carry it for me. The problem is that unless you go to 75+ watts (with the accompanying weight), you can't get good cleans out of a SS at band volume. You get a mostly clean sound, but the low registers tend to fart because the linear amp chips can't handle the power requirements. Tube amps distort when cranked, but plugging into the Low input or turning down the guitar volume cleans them right up without loosing much volume. Plus, even when a tube amp begins to overdrive it tends to sound pleasant rather then buzzy.

Also, SS does not respond well to volume knob tweaks for drive - you're pretty much stuck with channel switching or pedals.

That being said, I agree SS amps sound great. If weight wasn't an issue, I'd get a 100W 2x12 SS combo and use a footswitch for drive. Problem is, anything smaller wouldn't really cut it. With my 15W Ampeg Jet (~30lbs), I can dime it and go from clean(ish) to heavy distortion on the volume knob and still be at band volume. I don't think there's a SS amp that can match that kind of simplicity and portability. I like the SS sound better, but tube gives me the most utility in the smallest package.

I get what you're saying.
My Sunn Beta Lead is a 100W 2x12" combo. It's unbelievably heavy, I think it ways as much as my Mig 60 and 4x12 cab combined. But that's why god invented casters. ;)

so...
its like i'm never satisfied with things..
i got sick of it not intonating with the 90's duo neck.. (shock!)
"borrowed" the neck from my jag hh ... until the one from all parts arives
i had tossed a rails pup in the bridge for a bit, but for some reason it didn't play well with the mustang switching.

so new pics
and video demo tomorrow..

neck pup is a diMarzio Class of `55
bridge pup is whatever comes in the squier jagmaster these days.

i'm having some wiring issues with this now
i pulled the humbucker out of the bridge and went back to a single coil...
when it shows up it will be getting a `72 neck

but i have triple checked the wiring, and i only get sound from the neck pickup when in one position, nothing from the bridge pup at all.

i should have taken gut shots when i had the guard off yesterday (i mean it will have to come off again anyways)

but essentially it only works when both switches are in the position closest to the bridge, or with the bridge pickup in the off position with the neck in the position closest to the bridge
i guess it "works" in the sence that the off position works for both pickups as well ;) as it turns them off..

neck pup is still a DiMarzio class of `55, bridge pickup is now a squier strat middle pickup.. i think.
