You can get the Licensed ones for as little as £25.00, there seems to be different price levels which you would think was based on quality.
Having said that the Floyd on my Stagemaster is a licensed model and is as good as any i've tried.

How much is an original Floyd Rose likely to be? I've got one on an old Kramer with a busted neck....

It was the original Floyd Rose I was thinking , rather than a licened one.

My Batwing trem works on a knife-edge fulcrum, like a Floyd Rose, rather than being drilled into the body. It can do most of the stuff a Floyd Rose can do without looking really ultimately faggy, and returns to pitch because I keep my guitars well set-up.

The action on a Floyd Rose is completely different. The strings will completely flop off the body, and return to pitch perfectly.

It's not just about stability. My Jagmaster WILL NOT go out of tune, no matter how hard I try to make it (and I've spent a good half hour in the past trying, just to see what it can do), but I'd still want to have a guitar with a Floyd Rose.

They are about £130 new, but some people seek out the old ones so you might get more.

So is my strat. In fact they have saddles with locking screws in them. Add some locking tuners and you have all of the function of a Floyd, 95% of the performance, and 0% unsightliness.

The Wilkinson trem is quite impressive and the hipshot trems look good too but they dont have the same travel as a Floyd, if the difference is 95% then it seems that missing 5% is what counts.
If they were just as good, 50% of guitar manufacturers would'nt bother with the Floyd Rose would they? Because like its been pointed out on many occasions, their guitars would appeal to a larger market because they would'nt look so unsightly. They would also cut down on production costs.

That's the thing people don't seem to get. A floyd Rose isn't really about stability, a properly set up vintage trem will be as stable as anything. The advantage is the travel and the action.

Or so I find. I'd imagine that different players are drawn to different things.

The Floyd epitomises a lot of things people dislike about some music and guitar players, and they cant see past that. It is large, but imo the Bigsby is the most hideous trem system ever. Horses for courses i suppose.

Aye, I never would have dared to say that here. I think they're mostly horrible looking, and entirely inneffective.

Not really, they're completely chalk and cheese to single coils.
I have liked both in the past, but I'm really not into humbuckers at the moment.

I sort of like most things pickup-wise, to be honest. Although, I reckon mor people should try mini humbuckers. It's the darkness of a humbucker with the snap and responsiveness of a single-coil.
