I don't think it gets prettier than the Daphne Mustang.

Just meant that there were lots of colours, not that there were lots of other colours.

I always think pearl guards look a bit "Kenny Rogers", mind.

I don't really like any of the other colours to be frank.

They're gaudy as fuck.

I adore the text:

It is a compact body in the problem of a short scale.
Mustang that had variegated sound and dynamic vibrato with which functional beauty overflows

That's because they go on guitars designed for ladies and those who know no better </thoseknobsoffofyoutube>

found this titbit:

Here’s a re-issue of a classic Fender guitar, namely the Fender Mustang. This guitar has been given a limited re-issuing period and is based on how the design looked in 1965.

here

although the picture on the site is of a '69 RI and they think the body's made from basswood, everything else points to the current '65.

Yeah the picture is wrong, but it looks like that confirms what I thought. No way would a '69 be £550 online.

That colour chart is just for reference. They only sell the comp in OCR and OLB.

Edit - 73 comp in OCR (Candy apple red?) and OLB(lake placid blue), 69 comp in FRD (fiesta red?) and OTM (ocean turquoise metallic?)

Oh fair play. I get so frustrated trying to read their website. It's terrible.

Anyway, I'll probably save for two months and buy the MG65.

I'm glad they don't sell an accurate looking comp orange at the moment. I'd be in the same predicament as you if they did.

It's a nightmare. I've been really good for months now about not buying stuff and pairing down my setup.

:-/

I hate being afflicted.

After a weekend of having several awesome solid body guitars to choose from and getting home to none, I'm sort of glad I have no money because any money I did have would be spent on a guitar. The rob og being made is the only thing stopping me from trying to get together the money for a decent cheap guitar.

I hear ya.

It's quite annoying, because I've been hitting approx £200-£300 into my credit card each month for about 6 months to pay it off and now it's finally clear I start fantasizing with fucking myself in the face again, like the idiot I am, right when I'm going to be gigging and rehearsing with a full band less often for a few months as our drummer is having a kid.

I'm a fucking idiot.

I believe Fender Japan makes '69 competition models in LPB, CAR, Ocean Turquoise Metallic, Fiesta Red, Capri Orange, and Olympic White. As far as I know, the competition Mustang basses are available in all of these colour schemes. They also sell the '69 reissue in a whole slew of non-competition colours (sunburst is an option), including what you could possibly call "stripeless" competition models: CAR and LPB mustangs with matching headstocks. As well, a '77 reissue with a clear coated ash body, maple fingerboard, and black strat knobs.

There's a Japanese web site that has pictures of all of these, but for some reason I can't find the link today on Google (and lazy me never bothered to bookmark it.) If I can find it I'll post pics and a link.

Perhaps Fender might one day stop importing the mustang overseas, but the Japanese are fanatical fans of the guitar, so I'm pretty sure that they will always be produced in abundance over there. Even if the Daphne '65 is ever culled from the UK catalog, just buy one used from the USA on ebay, and avoid the rip-off prices that UKers have to deal with.

the ocean turquoise comps are lovely. i'd be prepared to pay a few quid extra and go through the hassle to get one of those.
