i agree, there's a big difference between a random noise generator pedalboard and creating sounds that really do sound different and fascinating.

after getting the green big muff from mike i now have space for another pedal on my board, but there's nothing i want on there. i've got some really nice pedals lying about but can't think of one i NEED. i tried a PS-2 on it yesterday so i'd have delay in two channels, but a) it's just something else to worry about when singing + b) more crouching down and twiddling between songs = fuck that.
another thing is how much weight is added to your board. because i get a bus to rehearsal a light pedal case is preferred to one groaning with the weight of a million pedals and their companion power supplies.

i carried a heavy ass pedalboard and heavy ass p bass to and from rehearsals for two years,
long walk +train+bus.

Like sonicboom, I used to be exclusively guitar to amp and that's it, but I now have 4 pedals and the amp channel selector. Admittedly, two of the pedals are often effects that you'd find in an amp - reverb and tremolo, but my amp has neither, then my others are a JH-1 for a stronger distortion than the Orange crunch sound, and the salt booster which I use a lot more than I'd have thought. So I've gone from a pedal-phobe to wanting more D: (a vintage rat and a big muff usa :E) So while I'm not yet distressed at having to choose pedals, I might be soon :/ Though I haven't even got a board to put them on, they're essentially a washing line :/

Get me to build yuo a Green Big Muff instead, much better than a NYC Muff.

Ah I'm just reluctant to spend more money on pedals is all :/ I'll come to you though if I decide that I want some fuzz, so to speak.

there's nothing worse than crawling about on your hands and knees in semi darkness trying to hook up half a dozen pedals while there's a crowd of people waiting for you to start playing. invest in a case and some sticky velcro, hook everything up, walk onstage, pop off the lid and you're away. saves so much time and discomfort.

this is a bit off topic but it's happened to me that we arrived at a gig and stagehands attacked the van like a bunch of ants, got the gear on the stage and by the time i could get to the stage someone was hooking up MY pedalboard to one of the guitar amps, while it was my bass pedalboard... assholes. hate it when i can't set shit up myself, don't do that shit if you don't know the band eh ? i was so pissed

wow you had guitar techs and you're complaining?
wow that is sweeeet - once they were done setting up i'd order them to change my guitar strings (hate doing that) and then give me a blowjob (just to see if they'd do it).

That's right kids, Aphasiac would ask a Big Sweaty Roadie for a blow-job.
Classy.
I'm with Kim, I generally dislike the larger gigs we've done when people insist on setting my stuff up. It's irritating.

I don't think some guy plugging your pedalboard into the wrong amp counts as a guitar tech.

It'd be amazing if they were your own roadies though, 'cause then they'd know what to do xD

no they were just random stagehands at a metalfest and didn't know what they were doing, assholes

I made a pedalboard with MDF, sprayed it black, glued a rubber car mat to it and tie-wrapped the pedals to it.. total cost £3. Looks decent and does the job.
I hate it when you play a gig with another band and the guitarist shows up like he's Dave Gilmour with like 17 pedals in a flashy case then he plays and he is total shit whilst only using about 3 pedals. lol.

Most of the people I've seen who turn up with a 6 foot double decker pedalboard sound like they spent more time shopping for pedals than they did practicing.

On a similar note. It's been ages since I saw a painfully average local band with wireless units and in-ear monitors. Maybe the message is getting through.
