I found that a whammy pedal, plus an aerodyne tele (tele with a P-90 at the neck) did a fairly good impression, but I didn't try it with a band or something.
I say you should just play bass or guitar, depending on what makes sense within each song. It's a group of musicans, like, not some football etam with a set formation.
