That comp black is amazing - cream switches, knobs, and Robroes and that would be the DuoSonicBoy Signature Model.

Ahh, my first love!

I broke the trem arm off within the first month, maybe it was for my own good.

cowey and bubbles beat me to it.
the orange peel on the black one and the.... heck it was another one, was INSANE!
and the rebole yellow looks like that montego yellow that fender did for about 6 months in like 79 or 80.
maybe it was actually 81.

you mean monaco yellow? the international color?
it'd be way cool if fender japan did an international series reissue.

monico yellow
montigo black

anyways. the color of the covers is all stupid. if you have a white pearl pickguard you need black covers, tort pickguard needs white covers. the only exception that looks any good is solid black pickguard with black covers

Tasty Ice Blue Metallic? Sherwood Gweeen? It's time for Stateside revolt.

'Tis a shame, I'm just an hour flight from Japan(Fukuoka)...yet so far away.

The competition black is nice, but I cast my vote for competition white with the navy blue stripes. This is from Ishibashi:

The Rebole yellow one is one of the standard colours offered on the 69 RI in Japan, and I occasionally see them pop up on Ebay. The 69s are available in Japan in something like a dozen solid pastels, all the original competition schemes plus a shitload of new comp colours, plus a few non-comp models with matching headstocks. Oh, and sunburst, too. The Japanese Mustang bass comes in all the same colours as well.

Fender USA does a lot of weird things, but their choice of colours just leaves me baffled. And the fact that whenever they import a Japanese model they drastically limit the available colours is even more mysterious to me. The '69 RI mustangs were exported for something like 15 years... and they only offered sonic blue and baby turd yellow the whole time. You'd think they would have at least changed the export colours every few years to keep the line fresh. It's not like the factory would have needed to buy new paint, since they're already producing all these other colours.

We must take action! But how? I don't get the impression that Fender USA has any interest in receiving input from their customers, or else they'd have improved their colour palette years ago.

Some more from www.fenderjapan.co.jp

Here's one that I like. Its colour is "CBL", I have no idea what that stands for.

The 65RI colours make sense to me, they're the colours the Mustang was available in in 1965.

true For the '65, because that's supposed to be a highly period correct reissue.

I think that limiting the export colours on the '69 is what really annoys me. The '69 isn't really a reissue, it being so different in so many cosmetic and structural ways from a true vintage mustang from 1969. I think of this RI as more of Fender's modern version of the mustang (and it should be labeled as such, instead of being presented as a reissue).

the comp red and blue ones that were available a few years back- were those just the same spec as the 69 RIs?

Cobalt Blue, unless I'm very much mistaken.
