It makes sense and should work fine. Th golden rule of electronics: If every part is working and connected correctly, the circuit will work. As long as you make all the connections, the layout doesn't matter much in a simple circuit like this.

Never eat solder.

Obvious to most of us, but if you have a cat, you'll have a hard time explaining that to the furry beast. I always make sure to check and double check my workspace once I'm finished soldering to make sure there are no stray pieces of solder that might tempt the cat into chowing down and giving himself lead poisoning. Maybe not all cats are as retarded as mine, but I think most are filled with pangs of desire by anything that remotely resembles a string.

This is a great thread, by the way. I'm pretty lousy at soldering, and you guys have provided a lot of great tips and tricks that I'll be sure to try out.
