I adore all of them but Mascis. In fact those four could have easily been in my five.

Mascis' guitar sound is AWFUL and he's gotta disappoint for even having a sig guitar. Purple or whatever.

I didn't know Roachello has a poiple guitar. She's clearly no nodding muso, so I guess I could be slightly wrong, sweeping statementwise.

Marr and Squire definitely . Summers and Townshend - hmmmmm.....

I'm gunna fly the flag for yep, wee Joey Santiago, Ira Kaplan, and FRED SONIC SMITH!!!!!!!!

WTF are you on about? Fred sonic smith was fucking rubbish, Wayne Kramer was the driving force behind MC5. And if you like him how can you critisize Mascis? He is an improvement on that blueprint.
Do you smoke crack?

Hey Fran, settle down man. I think you might wanna do yr homework on the '5. Maybe listen to Sonic's Rendezvous Band too.

And WTF are you on about with the "blueprint"? I'm not getting it.

I don't like Mascis gutar sound and I think he's a tit for doing the signature thing. So take me out and shoot me.

i'll gladly shoot you for talking smack about mascis, both times i have seen him live his sound was fucking incredible, pure warmth and sexy goodness, and on top of that ever dino album i have or masicis and the fog album i have sounds amazing!
i love the way he layers his gutiar tracks using his vintage jm's and a telecaster, its very clever and the end result is amazing.
just becuz your gear is not as cool and you can't get a good sound like him is no reason to hate.
in fact that reminds me.
STOP THE HAET IN 08~!

Phew, I better start dodgin' bullets then....

(Mascis also noodly-doodles a bit too much for my liking too....)

well, i think thats why i like his stuff tho.
the same old solo techniques get rather boring to me,
its almost like you can hear half the solo, then pause it, and take an educated guess on the rest of the solo and its 95% accurate.
shit gets boring.
i mean hendrix is a great example of a noodler, he just kinda.... did it.
sure he followed a vocal melody, but after a few seconds he was somewhere completely different with his soloing.
everyones got opinions i suppose.

Are you following Sonics path? Coz you come across as drugged out your head to me.
I know about MC5, i like them, i've got 3 albums a crap DVD and used to cover 'Looking at you' in a punk band. What are you trying to tell me about it?
His playing is mediocre garage band level, as a band they were exciting and wrote some reasonably great songs. Nothing spectacular. They are one of them bands that are cool to like, similar to the 13th Floor Elevators and The Stooges. But its nothing amazing.
Mascis got a sig guitar because he is a great player, loyally uses Jazzmasters (most of the time) and is probably the longest lasting advert for the model. I know lots of people that wanted Jazzys and Jags just because of J Mascis, so why would'nt Fender make a sig? Do you think he sold out from his hardcore punk roots? A mans gotta make a living you know.

Robert, you know what? You're right.
One man's noodly-doodle is another's great solo. It's where you take it - from the same starting point, Hendrix (if he were alive) , Mascis, Neil Young, Nels Cline, whoever, would each take a solo in a different direction. The noodly stuff just ain't what I want to hear just now - and as far as Mascis' guitar sound goes, you obviously know it much better than me. I've never seen the guy play - but on that "comeback" record I thought the guitars were a bit over-overlaid.
No offence, man.
08 = haet-free zone.

Fran: the MC5 were (are) an important band to me, and Fred was the heart and soul of the '5. That's the truth.
My teen years were all about them, the Stooges, Bowie, and yep, lots of other stuff it's either cool or uncool to like. Don't care.
Why are you so incensed here, anyway?
Oh, and the sig thing ALWAYS sticks in my craw - guitar heroes nudging Fender's turnover up by persuading fanboys they can Get That Sound - at an inflated price - just doesn't seem very noble to me.

My teenage years were full of William Reid but i'm not under any illusion to say he is the greatest. You questioned Andy Summers and Pete Townsend then cite Fred Sonic Smith as some amazing guitarist, that is what "incensed" me. How can you disrespect such great players?
But i do agree with your Fender statement partly. J's sound is in his fingers, not the guitar, more importantly his pedals perhaps. Anyone with a brain knows that thoiugh. But all that aside, they've made a few quid between em.
