I built a fuzz face clone a few years back. Sounded great, but due to my less-than-stellar soldering skills, it stopped working and I can't figure out how to get it back to life. It was more than a one trick pony, and quite versatile. Dimed, it had a wonderful, musical harshness that I adored. On lower settings, it gave a very nice and smooth overdrive.
Now I use the mammoth clone and octave fuzz that Mike built me... which both rock.

My 70's IC big muff sounds loads better than any other big muff I've ever played. It's a fuzz I'll NEVER get rid of. I just got a devi ever shogazer and it's really epic. It's like 2 fuzzes in one, it has a fuzz stomper and an add octave in, more crazy fuzz stomper, in one pedal WOW

Suggestions:
Zoom Ultra Fuzz - basically a big muff and fuzzface in one box, sounds more distortion-like that fuzz but tis v useable.
Behringer Super fuzz - clone of boss hyper fuzz. sounds mental and v cheap, worth a try.
Proco Dirty RAT - yup it's a fuzz and it sounds niiice..

i think it depends on what kinda fuzz your after. the vintage kinda sounding fuzzes like tonebender, fuzz faces, big muff. or the more modern sounding fuzzes like chunky cheese, fuzz factory, swollen pickle.
i'm currently torn between fuzzes, as i love both my dunlop classic fuzz (smoother fuzz face kinda thing) or mike's tonebender clone, which really does sound like a tonebender.

I think that's a good choice, I just got one of the huge red ones, promptly put it in a tiny little box, and have been enjoying it since. It does the "volume knob cleanup" very well. So it's kind of a two trick pony, but its a good ass trick.
