Just an update from my earlier post. Just popped into my local guitar shop...and they don't have any Fender amps nor will they get any in. So basically there is no way of me trying them out without travelling a few hundred miles (I live in the Channel Islands)! My shop is a Fender dealer and I asked for the prices of the Fender Deluxe (I seem to remember it was almost £900), then the Super Deluxe (quoted £1,139) and then the Twin (£1,165)...they basically quoted the RRP excluding VAT. I've looked around online and they are plenty of online shops that have those amps and significantly lower prices (when you take off the VAT). Not sure what I'm going to do next!

look up stores near you on teh intranetz, see what they sell, go there, test, order amp online for less $$ or secondhand (working ! haha). ?

This is a super biased opinion because I totally just got one of these babies and the honeymoon has barely even begun but if you're after Fenderish cleans and Marshallesque grit, you may want to look into Traynor YBA-1's. These basically sound like the result of the mating of a Blackface Bassman and of a JTM45/Plexi. They're PTP and the casing is completely overbuilt, so there's still alot of them kicking around. You can probably find one online, in decent shape for around $400. Many of these still have the original Mullards in them, too.

bloody hell. you might just have to take a chance on something and order online unless you've got your travelling hat on. those prices seem silly.

No kidding....It was ridiculous in there...I was under siege from an 800 and a 900 both with Pauls for an hour straight.

That's what I thought...I'm now toying with getting one of the following (prices exclude VAT):-

Fender Deluxe Reverb - £611
Fender Super Reverb - £869
Fender Twin Reverb - £782

I'm guessing that the Twin is the best, sounds very clean and has the power for anything. The only drawback I see is it is going to be heavy to carry around.

The other option would be the Deluxe Reverb but I'm still wondering if it has enough power.

Advice and views still gratefully received!

I would avoid a Twin like the plague, it's heavy as all shit and gives you one sound: BLARRGHHCLEEANS. At various levels of skullcrushing volume. I would only have one if I was in a big rock band and I can use it for my clean sound and switch to another amp for my dirt.

The Deluxe Reverb is far more attractive to me, since you can get great Fender cleans and also breakup and drive sounds from it. And you won't kill yourself carrying it. Trust me, it's worth it.

However Fender amps are so ridiculously expensive in England, I really would be inclined to go for something like a Laney, Orange or Marshall instead, you'll get A LOT more for your money.

It will be plenty Loud. Deluve Reverbs are loud amplifiers.

I am still thinking about the Deluxe Reverb (clean, lighter weight wise and still punchy) or the Twin (very clean, very heavy weight wise and lots of wattage)...but then come along the Orange links above and I'm starting to have doubts...I just wish I lived near a shop that stocked some Fender and Orange amps! I could catch a flight to the UK but that can cost anywhere between £140-250 from here in the Channel Islands!

that's really vid demos only give you 'so much' of what an amp REALLY sounds like

nowhere in northern france? i suppose paris is about the same distance as london (if not more) but there might be other smaller cities, no?
