well, the simplicity is good, it works, but not always, like... sometimes you wanna tweak a bit with the eq..you hear the hondo sounds rather muddy through it whereas the stang has that twang and bite and it just sounds good no tweaking needed.
it's awesome you can just plug in and play and cut out the other bullshit of twisting knobs.
i use it when i want a super clean sound because it does deliver that, like with a short delay when i want no dirt in there but then when i'm using pedals i'm always torn because with dirty sounds i like boosting the mids...
so i have to compromise because then i can't use the amp with the gain wide open and i love the amp with the gain wide open.
because if i'd use a fuzz on the dirt channel with the gain wide open it's just too much. so i have the dirt channel on overdrive. i really like the overdrive sound on it too btw.

would you say it's quite bright with single coils? normally my strat sounds like an icepick, unless i stick loads of bass and mid on and drop the treble. i think i'm gonna have to try it, i'm really tempt to make a super rig!!!!!

yeah it does sound quite bright, i don't have any other single coil guitars so i wouldn't know how they would compare to the cij stang through it though. are you gonna buy it online or can you test it with your own guitars at a shop somewhere ?
also, i think the 10 inch speakers of the ampeg cab add to bite so maybe with 12 inch speakers in a guitar cab it would sound less bright ? i remember when i played it over an orange 2 12 cab at a store and it did sound warmer, i wanted one of those cabs because the ampeg is for bass so it never really gets pushed that much but then sort of stepped away from it because i like the combination now.

I have a 2x12 cab with v30's in it, and it has a really warm tone. there is a significant increase in low end between an orange 2x12 and 2- 1x12's. The orange 2x12 is a large cabinet, which helps with the low end. My strat sounds great through the R30 and my 2x12.

I used a rocker 30 on 90% of my album.
Pretty versatile, a little on the thinner side of things, sometimes i wish it was 100 watts - it lacks some of that deafening mid range punch that my lead guitarist's amp tortures my soul with.

you mean for the cleans ?
i can get these droning sounds out of a guitar like a japanese mustang with certain settings and tunings, the dirty channel doesn't sound thin to me

i think i'm going have to invest in a R30, i'm thinking a head though now.

it's a difficult choice eh ? i went for the head because i didn't want to let go of that bass cab when LE kicked me out haha.. but another less superficial reason was that i wanted a cab that could handle more frequencies and sometimes i like to play bass through it etc. also the cab is on wheels and i couldn't possibly lift the combo version on my own so where someone would put it down there it would stay whereas now i can pull and push it around.

i'm pathetic eh ? but i sorta started to like the combination and being broke i just stayed with what worked. i guess the top is more versatile but the combo is safer because you know the speaker and amp work well together hm.. also more easy for gigs space-wise but maybe for heavier stuff being able to have more speakers etc, put together your own setup to really get your own sound the top would win again
eek !

Yeah I'm really liking the 112s - definitely a good choice for me. I'm at a really happy stage, I just turn on my amp and think - yes.

If orange isn't your colour. Its about a £30 premium over the non Orange. Which is funny because it is meant to be a no cost option.

orange top on a black 4 12 or 2 12 orange cab would look niiiice. i think the beige grill would work well with the black, wouldn't be so... orange.

i try to forget about the AWESOME of matamp, hours in a rehearsal room with a band who only used matamp traumatised me.
maybe one day

only thing better than orange is matamp.

I wouldn't agree with that. I don't buy into this "Matamp is better than Orange" hyperbole.

it depends, the ones i heard at that rehearsal were an orignal minimalist logo matamp and the 60th anniversary edition of the same one and they were heavy but not muffle treble cut heavy, they had soooo much growl !
and the cleans were similar to that typical orange chime but you know, different models, it's a big diff wether it's like.. a 70's orange or a modern one and which model of the modern ones, same goes for matamp. i wouldn't say one is better than the other, it's just different sounds for different tastes and those matamps were doing their job in a doom/sludge band and they were perfect for it. it was loud as fuck but still musical, it gave me goosebumps.

what's also confusing is how loud both orange and matamp tend to be compared to other guitar amp names, well maybe hiwatt fits in there too, it can feel like it's insanely loud like it's physical but you don't need like crazy 200 fucking watts, it's very weird, with others it's like 'wow this is 200watts' but it's just, not that, you know ? most of the time it loses its musicality

Aye, but Orange will GIVE YOU 200 watts, its just expensive.
This Ad30 is pretty epic, i've not given it a go yet, but i've listened to it and it sounds pretty rock.
