The Taylor would be a great choice. I'd steer clear of the Simon & Patrick/AMI stuff as their wood quality is terrible. Most of the ones I see that are over a couple years old already have cracks or need neck resets.

You could look at Alvarez as well - their low-price models are pretty awesome.

I don't doubt there are plenty which hold up fine. It may be a case of statistical discrimination on my part. I.E., all the ones which self-destruct get sold to local shops where I see them, whereas all the ones which are great get kept for many happy years. Thing is, I've seen enough messed up ones that I wouldn't recommend buying one sight-unseen.
