Yeah I think it looks better, but what all makes it different from the 1448?

It's got a longer neck - 25" v. 22.5" and 21 frets v. 18. The tuners are much better. It also sounds a little brighter, clearer, and has more sustain. It basically just feels more solid and professional all around.

Ah cool that's kind of what i expected. How much do you think a vintage one is worth?

I paid $800 for mine cause it's Dano-branded and a '57. You could probably get an early-60s Silvertone Dolphin-headstock model for around $450-500.

They're a great sleeper-guitar. I'm amazed they've stayed as low as they have.

Just remember that the tuners on the 60s Danelectros work backwards.

for that moneys you could find one like mine, and have two pickups and access to the trademark dano series wired sound. which is much better for almost everything than just one lipstick. like, better than just twice as good, even. srsly. mine was 200 at a pawnshop and they can still be found for less than 400 for sure. one went on ebay a few weeks ago with the amp in case for like 450.

also, to be clear, it has the 25" scale.

Yeah, what exactly does the three-way switch do with the u1? it has only 1 pickup, so i don't know what it could do.

It's a "tone switch."

Down = tone knob rolls off treble
center = tone knob bypassed
up = knob rolls off bass
