Gonna buy a Jazzmaster...quick question bout bridge.

Yeah, you can tighten a screw on the plate to tighten up the trem, just in the same way that you can add springs to the strat trem.

why thank you for bringing this topic back, it wouldn't have happened had you not been here to bravely steer us around.

anyway, try out the bridge before you buy anything, i'm clumsy and heavy handed while playing yet i rarely get strings jumps on my jaguar with the stock bridge and that's with 12s.
i might have to go down to 11s though since the high e does come out if i hit it hard, only one groove down so it's a two second retune if i need to carry on playing or something but it can be annoying.

I think I'll try the file first and see how that sorts out and I figure if I jack it up I could always get a Mustang bridge.

actually while we're on the subject, does anyone here know how a buzz stop affects trem usage? i considered one on my jag but ultimately decided it would probably hinder the trem.

Actually I'd say you're one of the more interesting/relevant posters 'round these parts. At least you're open to discussions about strings in relation to bridges

Back on topic. Personally I wouldn't use anything but 11's on all my Jazzmasters. But I no longer have one. So I can't quite say that I guess. Anyway, the strings never really popped out but I don't play or look like I'm having a seizure while playing... (don't mean to generalise tho having seen 98% of my city buy up offsets/et al, that's all I see at shows now-a-days)

Except that on a strat, you tighten the claw to adjust the trem - the number springs are more for how stiff you want it, in my venerable opinion.

Doesn't hinder in my experience, although I've taken it off mine as I wanted the plinky behind the bridge sounds available again.

The Warmoth modified Mustang bridge is pretty good, and lets you adjust to the action to fit the JM's radius, unlike the standard one.

And Buzzstops are great if you need more beef, and a bit less plinky plonky.
