Yeah, an approximation would be dandy, it's not like I'm going for Hendrixmojotones or anything.

I'd like to make something I'd really like, but I'm guessing anything to tickle my fancy will be way too complicated for a first real build.

My first pedal that worked was an LPB. I had attempted to build a Fuzz Face prior to that but it didn't work. I nearly gave up after that one. Fuck the Fuzz Face. An LPB or any other single stage NPN amp circuit is loads easier and far more gratifying.

It's what I would have recommended but Doog said he doesn't want to build a booster as he has plenty.

I'm sure he can handle an npn Fuzzface build, you don't have to deal with the brain-twisting positive ground "teh 9V goes to the Jack Sleeve WTF?" mind-fuck

The cool thing about the LPB is you can just tack on a diode pair after the gain stage and you has a decent OD. Or, just use a diode in the feedback loop. The Altoids Fuzz I made for Jimmah was IIRC just an LPB with a diode in the feedback loop, and it was well fuzzy.

I just really hate the Fuzz Face.

I love the Fuller mods version I have built for Benecol, Dinosauria, Chicago Mike and others. It's great - the added Contour control gives you tons of mids and harmonics. Great Fuzz box.

Don't like them stock though, quite boring.

Not really. It's a two Si transistor npn Fuzz. It doesn't really sound anything like a Fuzzface.

Again - not really. It's npn for a start, so you're talking about a converted Fuzz face, and then you're talking and one of the most common circuits in the world. It's also really similar to a bunch of other things. it's a building block.

Also - did you get permission to post that schematic from the Author? Probably not a good idea to throw that stuff around in a public forum - so I'm removing it. But I'm well aware of the Mammoth circuit. I have build a few personally.

Step drill bit for 8-14mm holes.
