it says 8 ohm speaker and 4 ohm for external speaker. not too sure what that means.
This worries me.
sorry, this is my first amp that's not a combo
clearly the 8 ohm speaker is the main output that goes to the cab.
i'm just not familiar with what the motivation for another speaker would be.

Yes, I would rewire the cab for 16 ohm...
I think that's how that works...

Did SUNN make combos of this amp? Would it be a combo converted into a head?

Hmm here:
"No. You can safely power a 16 ohm speaker or an 8 ohm speaker, or two 16 ohm speakers, but not a 16 and an 8.
Sunn wired their output jacks such that, if you plug into the 16 ohm jack, it connects to the 16 ohm output tap on the output transformer. If you plug into the 8 ohm jack, it connects to the 8 ohm tap. However, the 8 ohm jack also contains a switch, so when you plug into the 8 ohm jack, the 16 ohm jack is also connected to the 8 ohm jack. The 16 and 8 ohm labels refer to total impedance, not just the impedance plugged into that jack."
In your case this is the 8/4 ohm speakers
The schematic indicates that this is probably the case due to how the outputs are wired.

There you go. Right-hand side of the schemo in the center.

Well they did make combos of other, similar amps, as evidenced by the following image, but I am not sure about this particular model.
Also, I suspect that it is the original enclosure.

Fair enough. It's just that having a jack labeled 'speaker,' and then a jack labeled 'extension speaker' suggets that that first speaker's presence was sort of assumed.
Bawbag's post seems fairly convincing though.
