I had an epi dot, that got lovely feedkback when pushed, but had no real troubles

my coronado feeds back quite a bit if you leave your hands off the strings, but it's a slow building growl, none of your squealy nonsense. and it certainly doesn't screech with distortion or anything. quite a pleasing sound.

Well, that was a good trip. I haven't shopped for a guitar in a while, so I went through a bunch of them before I picked up the Gretsch:
Two Gibson SG models: one was utter shite, dull and dry sounding, the other was alright if I was a hamhanded meathead who didn't care about having more than the one tone it produced. NEXT!
Two PRS SE models: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Firewood.
A Fender Standard Tele: Nice guitar, but I've never been a single coil guy, and I don't think I ever will be.
A Fender Thinline Tele: Pretty nice, had a full tone to it like you'd expect for a semi-hollow, just didn't feel quite right.
A Fender '72 Deluxe: Very nice, and my 2nd fave of the night.
Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet: Love this guitar. Absolutely love it. Great tone, very articulate, full souding, smooth action, neck felt great. And that's despite the fact that some fucktard had yanked on the Bigsby so hard that one of the mounting screws was halfway pulled out of the body. I'm sure I could easily have bought it for $100 less than they wanted, but I'm not going to pay money to fix a brand new guitar.
So it's off to find a scrupulous seller on ebay.

I have a sunburst Riviera like Mike, stick it through a big muff and it’ll feedback forever (but I like that wall of sound/feedback sort of thing)

My epiphone supernova handles distortion/fuzz pretty well without too much feedback, although i did replace the pickups on it.

If it has a center block, it's not going to do squeally hollowbody feedback. The pickups are mounted in solid wood vs suspended from a thin carvetop that's under constant vibration. There can be some feedback from the top still vibrating, but since it doesn't have as much room to move as a real hollowbody, it isn't as big an issue.
Some of Epiphone's 90s buckers were some kinda supershit though. The bridge one in my G-400 squealed like hell until it eventually melted, being just polepieces, copper wire and wax between the baseplate and cover (it had bobbins made of see-thru wax). They must've been comissioned by the government to make Reagan look good.
