That is so Art Rock.

Last night I finished this pulsing ring mod. What pulses is the frequency of the ring mod effect, and it sounds crazy, like 50s sci-fi. Stacey says I should call it the Telstar, which is a good name. The controls will be input gain (this controls the overall level too) and speed (the speed of the pulses). You can see from the labeled photo below that it combines the aforementioned LPB/Saltboost, the LMC567CN pseudo ring-mod (courtesy of Tim Escobedo and Worth Ekik) and a pulsing LED/LDR network. It really is a thing to behold, and I'll have a demo up as soon as I whack it in a box. The only downside with this is the relative high price of and limited availability of the LMC567CN chippy chip.

Man alive, that is pretty and I want one. Nice one Tim - am I right in thinking that that's unique in the effects world, too?

I love LEDs and LDRs. Do you not find you have better results if the LED is facing the LDR directly?

Fanks Tim. I don't know actually, I used to love wah-ing on the frequency setting of my moogerfooger with an expression pedal. This kinda does it for you, but with some grit thrown-in. I'll bet someone boutiquey has made something similar, but it certainly is unusual sounding!

Will try it 2nite! Works pretty good with the LDR right next to the LED though.

with the Trem I turn them to face each other so you get the full sweep of the light more directly coupled. If you want to be really Art Rock you can shrink wrap them together. I'm using shrink wrap these days to make stuff like LED->resistor-> wire connections look pretty.

How'd you heat the shrink-wrap stuff?

Using NO SCIENCE.

Hold it near my soldering iron, like. That shrinks it most of the way and then I just squeeze it the few fractions of mm when it's hot.

New arrival! This tiny (less than A4 footprint) Proxxon mini circular saw arrived today. These cost £100 new and I got it for half that on ebay. Never again will I curse the hacksaw. I used it to cut a bunch of boards just now and it's so much fun.

Bzzzzzz!

The worrying thing is that if Aphasiac has sold this off, he must have bought some even bigger murder devices.

Prototype 'telstar' pulsing ring mod thing. Woot!...? Finished in teacup patterned fabric. I haven't decided what the switch does yet, but I've couple of ideas.

For sale! Another Husk(er)y Wolf. This one is good MXR Dist+ clone, only with 100k output pot for more volume and asymetrical clipping with silicon diodes.
Um. £45 in the UK.

I was going to mention that too. I think you ought to get rid of it.
