John Squire. but other than him this thread just makes me think how completely absent the stratocaster is from any "alternative" music. what the hell. it's like you're super contrary if you play a strat now.
let's see... really thinking now... ah! here are some players that I really like actually.
the girl from screaming females. like a female jack white but she can really shred. she plays a G&L.
dude from Evangelicals. also, can shred.
some more I've though of...
dude from Times New Viking
dude from Beach House
dudes from Black Lips
dude from Box Elders
Nick Zinner from Yeah Yeah Yeahs

mage named like, all of em.
evangelicals were surprisingly good live. i saw them and deerhoof open for the flaming lips at the OKC zoo, when they shot that dvd (ufos at the zoo)
that times new viking guy rocks it hard, makes me think i need nothing but a strat and a marshall when i see him live...
speaking of live TNV, the first time i saw them was when they opened for:
yo la tengo. ira kaplan is my favorite strat player.
doug martsch of built to spill is a hell of a player, too.
john squire had a sweet ass pink strat.
on an off topic note:
► Show Spoiler
incidentally, ira is also my pick for "player that made you want a jazzmaster:"

i know a guy who stood right in front of the stage at a yo la tengo gig shouting "penn and teller!" repeatedly at them (presumably he was referring to the girl and the big guy with the curly hair). i thought it was quite funny...
anyway, carry on.

Oh I forgot, Vai played a Strat until Ibanez purchased his soul. Watching 'Stevie's Spanking', a guitar duel between Vai and Zappa on Youtube was amazing.

haha yea seriously. it's like, don't make this any harder than it needs to be.
in general though strat players strike me as people who are comfortable with their playing ability. they're not hiding behind some quirky guitar.

ahaha, I meant the strat is quite average. you're not exactly going to stand out by playing one. the only thing left is your playing.
oh shit, totally forgot about Brad Laner

It's been taken down from Youtube, took me a while to find it. On second thoughts they may be playing Ibanez Strats, looks like they have floyds. Fail from me I guess.

Noone made me get a strat, I got one because it felt like a quality guitar, and played like it. I was also a guitar n00b when I bought my first, and only strat(I'll buy more....)
HOWEVER; This thread should have ended when Zappa was posted after Buddy Holly. Two great musicians.
My strat just is way too trebly, I'll probably swap out my pups to tri-sonics or something later.
