Here's the first one (since I can't figure out how to hide photos). The box was so light, it was like it was empty.

I mean, you have to realize these sell for way more than I paid for it, and I didn't know how old it was or anything. All I know about them is that George Thorogood plays them.

So I get it, and it's got all this vintage cracking going on, and I looked up the serial number. It appears to be a 1966 model. The neck wasn't broken, and otherwise it seemed to be in good shape. It even has the OG tuners and truss rod cover.

No other parts. But I did find a fairly inexpensive period tailpiece and TOM so far. I would love a Charlie Christian, just for the effect and since I don't have one. But for now I will get a cream dogear P90.

There's just this one little problem with it. This one thing that frightened other buyers and kept the price down around $200 until the last few minutes.
OH NOZ! It has a big fucking hole on teh front!

And trust me, it's an ugly hole. But the thing is so pretty. But light. And it seems like a fairly short neck. It's called an ES-125TC. It was only made during the 60s, and this one only had one pup. I guess the owner before ripped the guts out and mounted some Teisco parts onto it. I think most of those holes around the bridge will have to be patched. Luckily I still have mapplez from fixing the hole in the back of the Mosrite.

I don't think the guy got ripped off, because it it stripped down and completely fucked. But in the back of my mind I am looking at it, thinking hey--this is a 66 Gibson. It's still not the Gretsch or LP I have always secretly wanted, but I think it will do the trick. But this is as scary as it gets for someone playing around with restoring guitars. And try Googling for info on this kind of fix. As with the Mosrite and Coronado, there was next to nothing about it. The neck looks worse than it is. A lot of that is crud and Dots' DNA.

I have seen two of those harp guitars before. One owner said they take hours to tune. It was display only.

IIRC, that particular model is 23.5" scale. Maybe a little less.

Looks like a cool project. What color are you thinking, given the patch and all?

I've only seen these in that particular color. I think a gold top would be cool, or all black would be nice as well.

George Thorogood had one in white, and as stated earlier in the thread he rocks one for most of his music.

Here's a TDC (thin, double pickup, cutaway?)

and a single pickup, deep body no cutaway

I'm looking forward to seeing the restoration pics for this one.

I would love to have a gold top, and considered it--especially one with cracks in the paint. I mean, all bets are off, right? I could even put in inlays at this point. But I think what I would rather do is put in my maple patch(es) and try to match the colors. The guitar has scars, no excuses. If it looks crap, I could start with Dakota on top. It would cover the patches, look natural, and the cracks would still show. But that would mean having two red archtops and one orange, so I don't know. Three red would be nice...

I did just find a new vendor for nitro paint. Check this shit out: opaque red nitro furniture PAINT for $2.50!

If it were mine and I was having someone do the work for me I think I would ask for something like this...

- fill large hole on the body, holes in the bridge pickup area, holes for the bridge and holes towards the tailpiece.
- dog ear p90 in white at the neck, with vol and tone pots. white pickguard to match
- standard tom style bridge, and archtop tailpiece (no bigsby)
- refin (keeping the binding) in one of these two colours (or possibly some sort of awsome burst surf green into sherwood or something)

I understand where you're comin from, that current finish really looks great. goldtop would be amazing though.
