Best neck I have ever played or owned, but my tastes moved on from buckers and it would have been too much work to "'72 Custom" it up.

The neck on my custom took a bit of getting used to after years of playing a shortscale, but I really like it now...
The 72 teles are now going for £750 on Denmark street, which is more than twice what I paid for mine new 4 years ago...

I hardly ever play mine, but it's not that I don't love it.

The Custom one is a bit different to the Deluxe, or I would have just bought the Custom. The profile isn't the same, but they're both chunky

Ah right, I've never played them both side by side, but I was always under the impression that the necks are indentical other than the headstocks...

Custom - Maple, “C� Shape, (Gloss Urethane Finish) - Vintage Frets - 7.25" radius

Deluxe - “C� Shape, (Gloss Urethane Finish) Medium Jumbo - 12" radius


They're actually totally different. For some reason the 12" radius made total sense to me on the thick clubby neck but on my Warmoth Mustang neck I ended up selling to Fran the combination of the flat radius and thin profile really upset me. I swear the Deluxe used to be labelled as a "U" shape. Maybe I'm going mad.

I tried one of these (again) today. Sadly it's still not for me, the neck seemed very flat and wide def more of a shallow C shape than a U type tho I'm pretty sure that the one I tried a couple of years ago had the deeper U shape so you could be right about change Mike. It's frustrating because this is one of my all time favourite designs but that neck's not for me.

I reckon I like the exact opposite of your prefered neck profile mike. You'd probably hate my Jaguar.

Quite possibly. I'm lucky the Classic Player Jag necks a more clubby than other Jag necks. I loved the neck on Hurb's '69 though.

If I ever Doogfest I'll bring it with me. The old Japanese Jag I use and the '68 have very similar necks on them but the Japanese one is still my go to guitar.

Speaking of the CP, I've been hearing good things about the Jazzmaster (esp the neck) so I'm gonna try to track one to try.

Yup, even Guitarist said it was a complete winner. They didn't like the Jaguar because it was a ShortScale, they acted like it was an accidental mistake. Muppets.

I've pretty much heard glowing feedback of all the models, like any Fender these days, there are some lemons, but if you play before you pay you're going to be impressed.

I was just reading that again (the issue with the Jazzmaster on the front?) They also said that the CP Jazz has a better neck than the AVRI. Tho as we all know everyone likes their own style. I found the AVRI too fat so I'm itching to try the CP!

Yeah it's dumb that they class the 24" scale as a black mark. Asses.

I'm inclined to take any criticism like that (semantic detail - they often hate lovely pastel finishes because they're muppets) with a grain of Weekend Warrior Salt^TM but when they really praise something (like the Classic Vibes etc), they're generally on the money.

Here is another example of some really dodgy critique of a product.

"What's that, it doesn't produce good harmonies if you're not singing in tune? Fuck me! Bad Voice Box!"

I know I get terribly vitriolic about guitar shops and the guitar press, but not since the glory days of payola and backhanders has there been a more unreliable media source than the UK guitar press. Just imagine if we actually believed that crock of shit; we'd all be playing Vintages through modelling amps and multi-fx's.
