Why do you care about the pot value? You realise increasing the pot value increases jangle, right?

You can wire a guitar up any way you like. I have no idea why you would connect those pot values (which are only in the rhythm circuit by the way) with not having a 250K pot.
If you want spank use a 500K or 1meg volume pot. You can also up the value of your Tone pot if you want.

EMG produce a decent range, its just they get associated with Thrash Metal or Zak Wylde. People forget the tonez of people like Dave Gilmour that used EMGs for a long time.

I think they are active, i read the book written by Pink Floyds guitar tech. They were used because of the low noise, considering Floyds lighting rig combined with a Strat they must have had a nightmare beforehand. He may use a Rocktron Hush now though.
