Hah - did that happen to you, by any chance? Shag-wah, as any fule kno. Unless you're my friend Tim, who pronounces it Jaw-gurr. But he also talks about the rifts he's learned.BobArsecake wrote:Because he wanted there to be confusion when an Englishman is in a guitar shop in America and asks for a "Jag-u-ar".

Yeah, first with Cowbell lol, then I think we were asking someone in a shop we went into about one.benecol wrote:Hah - did that happen to you, by any chance? Shag-wah, as any fule kno. "miserable cur" That's kind of harsh. We are not all miserable you dogist!!!111!!1benecol wrote:Hence 'Stratocaster' and 'Telecaster' - made up words, suggesting, variously, flight, communication and futuristic-ness? Clearly they were eating the same thing as me, you miserable cur.Mike wrote:Clearly not, I dunno what you're eating but I'm pretty sure that Leo Fender and his crew weren't pioneers of Synesthasia and Hippie Pseudo Wank.
We know the Jazzmaster came first, and that the Jaguar was the next stage on. To me it seems smaller, faster (shortscale) and more brash than the Jazzmaster. Jaguar.
And how do you know that a 'Jazzmaster' (as a concept, not a guitar) is bigger than a jaguar? And who said jaguars were brash? They may be very mellow creatures.
hahahaha. my uncle, who's been playing guitar since like '69 or something, says humbuckler instead of humbucker.benecol wrote:Unless you're my friend Tim, who pronounces it Jaw-gurr. But he also talks about the rifts he's learned.
i've never had the heart to correct him since i can only assume he's been doing the same for forty years.
He also, when trying out an electric guitar unplugged, still switches pickups and adjusts tone and volume, and nods approvingly at the sound. He also had, in the past, a Fran-like guitar buying habit, but would come back from the shops with the weirdest shit (including several Flying V's, each time vowing never to buy one again). When he went travelling in Canada, on his second day there he spent all his money on a secondhand Clapton sig acoustic, and had to spend three weeks in a fleapit motel waiting for his return flight.Reece wrote:hahahaha. my uncle, who's been playing guitar since like '69 or something, says humbuckler instead of humbucker.benecol wrote:Unless you're my friend Tim, who pronounces it Jaw-gurr. Annoyingly, he's also an ace guitarist.
Hmmmmm, Google images says that they're about the same size. If anything, the jaguar is slightly bigger.Mike wrote:How do I know it's Bigger? Because it is. do tell.benecol wrote:I know how the tele, strat, jazzmaster etc. came by their monickers
I'm gonna go with doog on this one though. I think it was the car thing. jaguar, mustang and bronco are all cars. It was probably a very modern sounding name for the time.
cogito ergo sum...thing or other...
nah, I think that was just a coincidence. Leo Fender was originally a radio repair tech and was into the advancing technology of the time. I think he was trying to latch onto the popularity and futuristic image of television. it just so happened that gretsch had the Broadkaster drums and they called fender out about it.DGNR8 wrote:Weren't the Caster names stolen from Gretsch, who had the Broadcaster?

Fast yes, but I always think of Jaguars (the auto) large spacious luxury vehicles, especially now since the XK is the only coupe their producing now.aftermecomestheflood wrote:fast and little like the car man
Checked, the only sporty Jaguar produced in the time when the Jag was produced was the E-type. But it could be that it's luxurious like the car.
