othomas2 wrote:Ahhh.... it's white. Was lookin' for a black one in an ideal world. But I would still consider it.

I think you could get a fair bit more for it than £150 btw... from the small bit of research I've been doing in the last few days I think the Korean LP Customs are a bit nicer and more sought after... I'll dwell on it but did have my heart set on a black 'un. Hmmmmmm...
ahhh crap. lol. I didnt think about the colour! although I think i mentioned it was white in my post.

I looked on eBay and seem to be around £180+ But with the electronics being dodgy on mine I think 150 would be fair. Im not gonna eBay it though, I'm not needing the cash.

EDIT ---

Im going to have to look into the made in Korea thing!!

THIS guy is asking £689 for a 1993 model. I will see what date mine is and stuff.

So you did mention it... ooops.. I should really learn how to read.

I think the LPs will be coming in later this week so will give 'em a whirl and see what I make of them.

I don't not like the white so there is still a chance we can sort somethin out.

cheers

I checked the serial number and despite being made in Korea it's a fairly new model - 2004. I'm not sure if they have stopped making them in Korea now though - people have posted on the Epiphone forums about it being hard to find Korean made ones anymore :?

Also, like you mentioned, there seemed to be a general oppinion that the Korean models were a bit better. I might post there sometime, ask what its worth compared to a Chinese-made one.

There's also another option: Burney (Fernandes) (Super Grade) LP Custom. A mate of mine who plays in a cover band uses it week in and week out and actually prefers it to his Gibson LP. They are Japanese made and I believe the late eighties early nineties ones are really well regard (build quality and pickups are supposedly really great). Some more info on that company Link

i have a black 2003 epiphone les paul custom. i got it last year on my birthday. until i really got back into my strat and mustang, this was my main guitar, good sustain and always held it's tuning. all round great guitar. i still use it a lot, mainly for heavier sounds, instead of trying get my stang to sound like it's got huimbuckers.

Some lovely guitars guys... thanks for posting !!

My aims for the guitar sounds the same as yours prog... to capture a broad range of tones from a few guitars without braking the bank :D

In work tomorrow... hopefully they've been delivered.

I'd choose Burny or Tokai over Epi tbh. Just my opinion though based on what i have owned.
Theres Greco, Edwards and Orville but they are pricey. Alternatively, if you want vintage Jap look for Yamaha Studio Lord models, theres also Cimar, Hondo, Antoria, Aria Pro II, etc. but i'd play before you buy. The quality can vary.

Having said that Dans Custom at £150 is a bargain, get your Steve Jones on!!

Oh, i forgot but this seems a good thread to mention it.. I was watching a sonic blue Burny LP not long ago. It was a fractionally smaller body aimed at teh female market, it looked fucking awesome. If i had'nt missed the end of the auction i think i would have gone for it.

Cheers Mate...

This one is really appealing... and could be worth the extra pennies...

I could try it out in person, and make him an offer... even more so if the auction wasn't a success ..

to the extent that I when I saw one in the window of a lingerie shop i sent my girlfriend in to ask about the fucking guitar. It was at that point that I realised I had a problem.

Tried the Epi Les Paul Custom today.... was good but not as good as I may have hoped...

I compared it with one of the Gibo studios which has the same pickups and hardware as a top end Gibo LP Custom.

The difference was significant enough to know I want that inherent thing that the Gibson has... whether pickups would transform the epi I don't know... it sounded much more muddy, with less clarity... as if someone had covered the speaker with a towel .

Ah well... think i might fish out an older Jap copy like I posted earlier. I have actually been in touch with the seller and if it goes unsold there's a chance I may go demo it and make the guy an offer.

cheers for the help guys...

This thread is really giving me GAS for a LP.

I'll probably go the SX route.

I've generally found Epiphone pups to be a bit lacking. I thought you would come to this conclusion Owen, thats why i recommended Tokai or Burny. Avoid the chinese stuff though. Just make a beeline for anything Jap or secondly Korean.

Fran's right. They are a bit hit and miss in the electronics department. It's one of the first mods people do (that and the input jack... and the pots... and the wiring). I own a couple of Epiphone guitars and I really like them but it's the parent company that pisses me off.

Case in point:
Headstock angle: Why Gibson makes their own guitars with a 17 degree headstock angle compared with the Epi 14 degree (apart from the Casino). Why go out of your way to change this feature? Because you want to ensure that those products are perceived as inferior and carry the stigma of "budget line". Chuck in some cheap pups and here you go guitarist. Looks like a Gibson, but if you're a serious guitarist you should graduate to a real Gibson. I think that's the attitude and that's business. </end rant>
