I don't understand how we keep getting matching guitars. Fredo made a bronco in those same colors and ya'll know bout my 'Stang bass, except I don't have the white pickup covers. This just proves you have excellent taste.

If you have time when you're down here, I hope you can stop by the garage and critique our collection :D

UPDAET:

STILL, FUCK THIS GUY.

so in this thread, i posted that he'd done it wrong, despite my best efforts to make it clear what i wanted.

here's our communication from the whole transaction:

Dear fxguitarman1,

Roger -

i have finally pulled the trigger, however i'd like a few modifications. you told me a while back when i called that all i would have to do would be order the color i want, and you could make it to fit my needs.

what i want:

- white pearl
- mid 70's style guard (not the 78 style, but the 'mid 70's style' which you sell in normal colors, not in white pearl)
- an output jack hole
- a tone knob hole (the next one up from the output jack hole)
- no volume knob hole (the furthest one up, closest to the pickup.)

here is a picture of exactly what i'm wanting -

Image

i will pay as soon as you confirm that you can do this. it's nothing special, just a little extra attention to some modifications.

please tell me if you can't see the picture, because it's important that you see what i'm envisioning before we get too far. if you can't do it, i understand.

Dear hotrodperlmutter,

I do not get what you want? why did you not buy the mid 70 tort and ask for white pearl?

pictuer just looks like a mid 70 musicmaster.

I can make that it is the same price.

Dear fxguitarman1,

roger -

i did not purchase the one in white, because it was not the same price as the pearl. does this somehow hinder your ability to make the one i want?

i tried to explain it as best i could. it's really very simple. if you do not understand what i am asking, please let me know. i would rather you say it now, than tell me you can do it, and i pay this money to get something that is incorrect.

thanks,

Dear fxguitarman1,

i did read your second response, but i read the first one, also.

the first one you seemed very confused as to what i was asking for. then the second one came with no response from me, that everything appeared to be cleared up.

you can do it and make it look exactly like the picture, correct?

Dear fxguitarman1,

Roger -

i recv'd the pickguard today, and my fears were confirmed.

everything was correct except you put two knob holes, when i specifically asked that you only include one tone knob hole, and one output jack hole. it looks very good, but unfortunately, it's not what i asked for in my first message.

"- an output jack hole
- a tone knob hole (the next one up from the output jack hole)
- no volume knob hole (the furthest one up, closest to the pickup.)

here is a picture of exactly what i'm wanting -

i asked for no volume hole, and a tone hole. you put both.

what are we going to do here?

Dear hotrodperlmutter,

the guard came back and you should not have marked it with a felt pen.
I am not cutting the tone hole or moving it over.
I will just cut you one with an input jack hole.

Why did you wait so long to send it back?

Dear fxguitarman1,

firstly - i marked on the plastic covering, not affecting the pickguard itself. i did it to show you how off center of the line it was (i put it under my OG broken guard).

secondly - please cut it how i originally asked you to, with an input jack hole, and a single knob, right where the tone knob should go.

thirdly - i waited so long to send it back, because i have a life, and work 60+ hours a week, and didn't have an opportunity to send it back before then. if you had gotten it right the first time (which you said several times you would), i wouldn't have had to send it back to you.

fourthly - you're going to reimburse me for shipping, correct? it was your mistake.

thanks,

- hotrodperlmutter

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear hotrodperlmutter,

In have to pay to send it badck tou you.
I did not cut any holes but the input jack and it is ready to go out tomorrow. You cab put the pot hole where you want it.
My templates are made from an original musickmaster bass and the holes are cut exactly like stock.

- fxguitarman1 Did this answer your question? If not, let the seller know.
so now not only is the twatsworth sending it back to me, unfinished (expecting me to finish it), but he's not refunding my shipping back to him to fix his mistake.

also, he mentions i drew on the pg with a 'felt' tip pen, well, it was with a dry erase marker, and it was on the fucking plastic covering.

I bought a Jaguar pickguard from him (Roger) 2 weeks ago, every single screw holes was out by 4-5mm, pickup routes were off and he even had the cheek to include a 'guide to blocking up screw holes with cocktail sticks'. I would have returned it but I got raped for £12.50 customs on a pickguard that only cost £25! Fucking GRRRR!!

The reason I had went with him is because I couldn't remember if it was Jeannie or Dazbootman that I have bought from before, now I realise it was Dazbootman because the guy was called Brian, not Roger. Stick to Dazbootman, he is a nice guy to deal with and will get it right for you.

I've also dealt with Terrapin Island Pickguards, who were excellent and made me a Strat pickguard with Mustang pickup layout for a very reasonable price.

Oh man this thread is full of fullfilled expectations. We're talking a good 90% failrate from this idiot. I'm going to post my correspondence with Jeannie-Roger when I dig it out. To anyone browsing this DO NOT USE JEANNIE FOR CUSTOM JOBS.

This guy needs to stop trading or pull his fucking socks up. No respect here for that kind of business.

probability dictates that if you throw enough shit at a wall given enough shits and years you could end up with a perfect sculpture of chewbacca. A couple of successes out of many members is not an acceptable level if charging money AND communicating like an arsehole AND not taking financial responsibility for fixing stuff.

I used www.pickguardian.com for my Jagmaster very happy with the work. The only problem I had was that the guard is not lined up the bridge, but that is not his fault. I custom made the bridge to replace the stock broken one and I sent him the stock pickguard as a trace and the Jazzmaster pickup covers. Still looks nice. This is another area I may eventually start doing my own work.

I'll add my ordeal as well.
mage wrote:I got that musicmaster pickguard from him, and he decides to tell me at the last minute that the tort he's using is not the stuff he's posted in the picture. so naturally I request he make it in another material. then he whines about how he's already made it and 'I guess I could tear open the package'. what the fuck dude, don't fucking whinge at me, just say you can or can't do it.

people keep using him because:

a.) he makes guards not many other people do.
b.) he's cheaper than the rest.

thing is, it's not like just taking a chance of running into some problems with him. it's fucking guaranteed.
mage wrote:yea, I was all nice about it too. all like, "oh gee, that's not what you had in the ebay listing. would it be possible to get it in brown tort instead?" and then he whines about how it would be a massive inconvenience for him. well fuck dude, a.) why did you list it incorrectly? b.) why did you tell me about it if there's nothing I can do about it anyway? if you're gonna change the plan on someone after they already fucking payed, you better give them some options to make sure they're a happy customer. like refunding them or making it with another material of their choice.

for this particular guard I didn't really care too much about the material though so I just went with what he made. and in the end it's a nice enough guard. what pissed me off was just how he handled the whole situation.
mage wrote:the only reason I didn't go with terrapin was, they don't have a template for a musicmaster, I would have to send in a tracing. and I don't have an original guard.
also, I have to quote this because it's hilarious and true:
hotrodperlmutter wrote:i actually talked to him on the phone, and i'm not sure he knows much about customer service, social interaction, or guitars. he may have templates, or original guards, but he's not fluent in mixing and matching, envisioning a custom order, etc.

Never mind the fact that this guy can't make the correct pickguard - I don't have any respect for someone with such horrible grammar and spelling in their official business correspondence. He isn't sending his buddy a text message, or posting on a forum; he's sending an email to a customer in order to conduct business. If he doesn't have any command of the English language then he needs someone else to handle customer service (He probably lives with his mom, maybe she could do this for him).

What's worse, I got the impression from the emails above that this guy spent about 10 seconds composing them, so obviously he doesn't even care about what hapened. What a douche.

So - who can we buy guards from? Pickguardian screwed me over saying the pickguards were not 'guarenteed' to fit. WTF is your business then? ended up costings about 90 fucking dollars for a simple Jaguar pickguard, what a twat.

My correspondence:

I do not have a copy of my initial email. It said something about not wanting pixelated tort.

My material is not nitrose so it may be a printed laminate.
Ot is very nice looking.
But i do have some blood red tortoise that is nitro.

Roger

Hi

Many thanks that sounds great. I asked because apparently some of the CIJ torts are actually printed pictures of Tort onto a plastic guard and the project I'm working on I want to invest in the best parts. The project can be found here
*project dead and buried*
Your product sounds great and just the ticket. I need to be certain which HB configuration I'm going for and then I will certainly order from you!

Thanks once again

Best regards

Hi

Can you provide a quote for Japanese HH (special) Jaguar Pickguards - one in your stock Red Tort for normal HH's ( Iguess this is as listed on your website and ebay?), one for your stock Red Tort but alterde to have the humbuckers mounted directly on the pickguard, and two more quotes for these two variations but in your Blood Red Nitro Tort?

Also if its at all possible to see a picture of the Nitro Tort so I can get a sense of the kind of swirls and colour that would help me with the decision greatly.

Really appreciate your advice.

Regards

You have the prices of the guards as listed on my store.
it is 20.00 each for the hole changes to make the template.
Once i make the template there is no charge for the hole changes on the second guard.

The blood red has very little figuring in it almost solid.
the other one looks better to me.
also the blood red is warped or cupped.
this is why i do not even list it on my store.

Roger

Hi Roger.

Okay I'm ready to order. What I want is the Red Tort for a Japanese HH (special) but with the Humbuckers to be mounted directly to the pickguard (Humbuckers will be standard Gold metal covered shape as per Number 3 on my project page *Project long forgotten as a bit shit*
Would this be $59.95 + $20 = $79.95? What would be the postage to the United Kingdom?
I don't have an existing guard to send you however the body is a stock CIJ HH body with standard configuration of screws (I hope) - does this present any problems?

If there is variation in the tort you have is it also possible to find one that is nearish the kind of deep colour and swirl as seen on the pics on my project page:

Please also advise how best to make payment in this regard.

Many thanks

It is 20.00 each for the hole changes to make the template.
Not 20.00 for both.
12.50 priority mail flat rate international.
So it would be 99.95 + 12.50 priority mail flat rate international

credit card call xxxxxxxxxxx

Or paypall at this email.

Roger

And after i paid no confirmation or any confirmation it was on its way.... Now here's the fantastic thing - after putting up with his moody and difficult emails that seemed to avoid answering my questions, including that REALLY IMPORTANT QUESTION ABOUT NOT WANTING PIXELATED TORT YEAH? ROGERTWAT SENT ME A REALLY PIXELATED TORT - . in the end I just went with it because it fitted okay (although the bridge posts looked like they needed widening).
