If you're in the market for a Mustang, I would just get a Mustang. The Cyclone, besides the shape of the body, is completely different to the Mustang. All the things which make the Mustang a mustang - the switching system, the scale length, the thin body, the vibrato system - are all different on the cyclone.

mustang necks are 7.25
cyclone necks are 9.5


if you want a really flat neck try a 72 deluxe tele with a 12 radius

It's one of the reasons I don't want a 72 deluxe.

Compare a Mustang neck to a Jazzmaster neck, basically. 2.25" makes a world of a difference.

It's weird. I like a 7.25" radius on a Shortscale neck, but I loved the '72 Telecaster Deluxe neck which was 12". It was big and clubby, so I guess that's why the flat radius made sense to me.

The Warmoth Mustang neck I got for my project Duo-Sonic II came with a 12" radius as they use it by default and didn't prompt me to specify one. I really didn't get on with the combination of the scale, thinner profile and flat radius. Fran seems to like it lots though (he has it on his CIJ '69 Mustang now). I ended up getting a '65RI neck for my Duo Sonic, which I love.
My MIM CP Jaguar is right in the middle at 9.5".

Yeah, the Japanese market always seem to have better guitars. Or at least a better range of guitars.

It's not just the scale lenght, though. Mustangs generally have an A width neck with a pretty pronounced radius. Cyclones necks tend to be a bit thicker, with less of a taper and barely a radius to speak of. The only comparable trait between Cyclones and Mustangs (and this applies to any editoration of the former) is the body shape. You're probably well aware of this but I'm gonna go ahead and be insistant on this fact because the Cyclone as surrogate Mustang misconception seems to pop up on this board, every couple of months or so.

thanks for the help all. its probably obvious im still pretty green in this area. i can definitely see this is not what im looking for, though i wish i had the ability to play one somewhere and git sum education.

I love my Cyclone.It is the guitar I play the most.I really love the Atomic humbucker. I think I paid about $ 500 for mine when I add in the cost of the hardshell case.

Thats because all that Fender USA wants you to play is a STRAT.

hi, sorry for digging up so old topic but can anyone make some samples of cyclone II in nice quality?
i'm thinking about this guitar recently, but in poland it's impossible to go anywhere and try it out, in my short life i didn't meet anyone who has got this guitar or even heard about it
so before hunting on ebay or anywhere i would like to maybe hear it

That's about as good a representation of the guitar voicing as you're going to get, short of playing one for yourself, really.
I know there's this video of this chick playing open chords on a CAR one kicking around but I haven't seen much more than that.
Sloan's demo is basically dead on the money.
